Dad regaled us with stories of house to house fighting in Germany. He did the Audie Murphy thing with a "grease gun" in one arm and bottles of wine in the other! He wouldn't lie about the things he did in the war even if this story made us laugh every time. I guess if he hadn't been a Sargent 3 times he might have had more metals.
They were the "Greatest Generation".
