Kansas State coach expects Beasley to turn pro

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP)?Michael Beasley is still grappling with a decision, but his coach expects the Kansas State star freshman to head into the NBA draft.

Frank Martin said in an interview with The Associated Press and the Manhattan Mercury on Tuesday he believes the 6-foot-10 power forward, even though he loves college life, will probably opt to turn pro.

?I think he?s going to go, and I think it?s the right thing to do, because he?s going to be the top pick in the draft,? Martin said.

Tales of the tape from NBA pre-draft camp

With the measurements and combine results being released, many fans took to their computers to find answers: How many pounds is Kevin Love trudging? What is Jerryd Bayless' actual wingspan? Or maybe, the most popular of all, could Michael Beasley really be only 6-foot-7?

The big question came with a small answer, (well, at least smaller than initially thought) as Beasley measured in at 6-8? with shoes. This may not seem too bad, but consider the fact that he was listed at 6-10, yet is only 6-7 barefoot. It definitely raises some red flags as it puts him into the "undersized post player" category, along with the "not yet ready to play on the wing full time" that he has already been tagged with. He has a great build at 239 pounds and was able to pump 19 reps on the bench press. His 7-0? wingspan, 8-11 standing reach and 35-inch vertical are impressive, but still not exceptional to the point where they cancel out the height shortage completely.

I don't think this "discrepancy" in height were hurt his draft status. I think he showed last year that he can play on the perimeter very nicely and he is a beast. I mean he is much more athletic than Charles Barkley ever was and I think he has the same desire to rebound as did Barkley. I would think he would make a very nice 4 in the NBA especially with his wingspan and floor game.
