Kalen DeBoer, who guided Washington to a Pac-12 championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship game this past season, was named the next head coach at Alabama, replacing the retired Nick Saban.

Washington athletic director Troy Dannen made an aggressive pitch to keep DeBoer, sources told Thamel, with a new contract that would make him one of the 10 highest-paid coaches in the FBS and more than double his current annual salary of $4.2 million.
DeBoer will owe Washington a $12 million buyout when he leaves. He signed a two-year contract extension through the 2028 season in November.
Just sayin': If all that is true. Washington was offering (at least) $9M a year so you have to wonder just how much Alabama is giving him. It has to be really substantial to cover the $12M buyout. Saban was reportedly making $11.4M a year; however, he had won 7 (6 at Alabama) National Championships.
