He signed with the Raiders AND they cut their starting K from last season. Looks like he has to beat out Rookie Eddy Pineiro (or I guess at least push him and mentor him for the rest of the pre-season).

I was just going around checking on the cuts and read an article that mentioned their rookie kicker has not practiced since being injured Aug 15, that he has no timetable to return and it is "very likely" Nugent has the job week 1. I'm surprised because I thought last year might be the end of the line for him and his signing this year was characterized as a longshot mentorship/preseason leg after the rookie beat out the incumbent. So way to go! I think even if this isn't final and he ends up cut he's definitely put himself in the position to remain one of the top vet options for the inevitable in-season tryout circuit.

Ohio State football: Mike Nugent reflects on hall of fame career
How does one become a hall of fame kicker?
Well, obviously making a lot of kicks is essential, but that was only part of the formula for Mike Nugent.
“Luckily I played for a coach who was very satisfied with kicking field goals,” the Centerville native said this week while discussing being selected for the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame.
Nugent made 25 of 28 field goals during Ohio State’s 2002 national championship season and ended up 72 for 88 in his career, including 8 of 9 from 50 yards or more. He was a two-time All-American and won the Lou Groza Award in 2004 as the nation’s top kicker.
He is Ohio State’s all-time leader in field goal accuracy (81.8) and all-time leading scorer with 356 points.
Those are hall of fame numbers, of course, but more than that the complete story of Ohio State football in the first decade of the 21st Century can’t be told without a mention of those days when calls of “Nuuuuuuge!” would reverberate throughout Ohio Stadium on fourth downs.
That coach he referenced was Jim Tressel, whose legendary conservatism was no doubt burnished by having a kicker as reliable as Nugent early in his 10 years on the sidelines in Columbus.
Nugent wasn’t the only standout kicker Tressel coached at Ohio State, but he was the first.
“You know what I can’t really speak for too many of the other guys, but for me we had a very good personal relationship,” Nugent recalled. “Especially on the field, we would always have good talks before the game. After warmups I would have a little meeting with him like, ‘Hey, how do you feel each direction? How is the wind looking to you?’ So we would break things down.
“I can’t speak for him, but I feel like he had a good amount of confidence in me, like once we get to this yard line we’re good to go. Hopefully my practice and games gave him that kind of confidence in me.”

Mike Nugent
Football 2001-04
Mike Nugent rewrote the Ohio State football record books as a four-year kicker for the Buckeyes between 2001-04, during which time the team won a national championship in 2002 and went 40-11 overall. At the conclusion of his career he either owned or shared 22 school kicking and/or scoring records, including 16 records he still holds. Among the records: most career points (356), kicking points, single season field goals (28 in 2002) and career field goals (72) and 50-yard field goals in a season (five in 2004) and career (eight).
Nugent made 24 consecutive field goals at one point, another school record, and was named a consensus All-American in both 2002 and 2004, the first Ohio State kicker to be so honored. Voted a team captain as a senior in 2004, Nugent scored 120 points during Ohio State’s national championship season in 2002 and was 25-of-28 in field goals that year.
As a senior, Nugent was 24-of-27 in field goals, including a nation’s-best 5-of-6 from 50 yards or more, and was named the Lou Groza Award winner as the nation’s outstanding kicker. He nailed a career-long 55-yard field goal as time ran out in the 24-21 win over Marshall, and he became the first Ohio State kicker to ever be named team MVP.
Drafted in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, Nugent, from Centerville, Ohio, completed his 14th season in the NFL in 2018, with the Oakland Raiders.
