K Josh Huston (official thread)

In 2002, we had the best PK/P combo (Nuge/Groom) in the country with no awards
In 2003, we again had the best PK/P combo (Nuge/Sander) in the country, and Sander won the Ray Guy Award
In 2004, we still had the best PK (Nuge), and a solid punter (Turano), and Nuge won the Lou Groza Award

Needless to say, we've been stacked in the kicking game the last three years, and the constant has been Nuge. Here's to Huston stepping up and filling the shoes...

for further confirmation....i just got word from Mr. Huston that it is indeed official.....

obviously a happy family....

Denny Huston, Josh's father, said finding out today was: "Just a timing situation. We had been bugging the compliance people to see what was taking so long. So I called and it sounded like they had just gotten off the phone with the NCAA."

Mr. Huston said the wait "has probably been tougher on his Mom and I than it has Josh. He has always been confident that he would get the extra year. Coach Tressel put him at ease by telling him to focus on kicking and the rest will take care of itself."

He also said that the reaction between father and son were totally different. Mr. Huston said he closed the door and let out a loud Whoop while "Josh was caught off guard, he had just finished a 4 mile run. Josh was excited, relieved and out of breath."

From the Plain Dealer...

Kicker Josh Huston has received approval of his petition for a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA and will play his final season for Ohio State this fall. Huston, who originally enrolled in 2000, regained the season he lost in 2002 when sidelined with a hip injury.

"We are excited that Josh will have the opportunity to realize his dream of being the Ohio State kicker," OSU coach Jim Tressel said. "I know he is looking forward to this year. He is coming off an impressive spring."

Huston is 3-of-10 on career field-goal attempts, all of which came in 2001.

Nuge was great no doubt, but the constant was Kyle Andrews. In three years he had ZERO errant snaps, and I can only recall one block and that was squarely on Nugent.

Did you watch the spring game? :wink2:

Kickers are useless if they don't have a ball to kick.
