Just Curious: What's your honest opinion of LSU?

Sorry buckI, I agree that VT's offense is dreadfull, just pointing out that LSU did not appear to be "the most talented team in the Country" when they played KY, Arky, Tenn, but they were not as healthy in those games as they will be against tOSU or they were against VT.

i know what you're sayin big man, but how do we not know Kentucky wasn't banged up? Or Arkansas?

I realize that LSU was banged up but maybe just maybe Lsu is not as dominant as people want to believe? Maybe Arkansas and Kentucky actually deserved to win? I'm just sayin everyone in football is hurting and missing players. Look at the buckeyes defense and look at how nicely they shaped up regardless? it's logical to say "man if not for injuries we would've dominanted" but I think we should appreciate what those back ups for both LSU/OSU gave us. If not for them there is no LSU/OSU championship game

Good point, LSU has not dominated the way the talking heads have expected, that is not debatable. The question is why? Injuries may be part of it, or maybe the talking heads were just wrong (oh, hi Captain Obvious, what a suprise:biggrin:)

Still think we'll see the best LSU team since their VT game, but obviously hope it's nowhere near enough.

LSU was #1 in the nation in DSC (Differential Scoring Composite) until the debacle in Kentucky.

Then their game-changing DT was injured the next week against Auburn and was never anywhere near as effective the rest of the year.

Nevertheless, IMHO a team with as much talent as they have should still be ranked at least #2 in DSC (they aren't). OSU has been a M*A*S*H unit on the DL this year. Their depth should be just as effective as ours at filling in while a starter is banged up.

Miles has an incredible group of athletes at his disposal. Whether they're the best team remains to be seen.

The lack of "experienced" depth hurt us. Tyson Jackson was our only starter on the D-Line not miss any time. Charles Alexander blew out his knee right before the season. Jean-Francois was inelligible, and Dorsey was banged up and sat out a good bit. That put a lot of pressure on our linebackers. Beckwith missed a couple of games there. Cutrera (who filled in for Beckwith) did ok, but nothing to brag about. The worst part, was our secondary. Chevis Jackson missed the 4th qtr and OT against Kentucky. Jai Eugene looked pretty bad playing in his place.

Very talented......but very beatable. I still am not sold on Miles' ability to coach in a big game. I think that LSU has the most talented team in the land, but they are held back by shoddy coaching. I'm not sure what it is, but something about the way Miles presents himself in the press carries over to how his teams play (erratic, and brash).

I think that this one with be within 6 points either way, and will be a very physical ballgame. I can't wait.

Here yea Daddy... Sometimes I get worried that ya'll LSU fans will think I'm bashing your team but I'm truely NOT. I think your team like many of us have said think you are the most talented in the college ranks (USC Could make an arguement), but I just think Les Miles is not the right guy for LSU. You're lucky his judgement in the Auburn game, Florida, and Alabama game didn't cost you victories. I mean a win is a win, but could you imagine had your reciever dropped the ball and you lost the game to Auburn? Ouch that would've hurt, and Les would've definatly been called out for it. Instead it was seen as a brilliant move much like his style will be viewed until it cost LSU big time. The fact that Les Miles is your coach is putting me to sleep at night when I think bout this game. Your talent, and location have me worried but seriously knowing Les Miles controlls your team is a saver for me.

When I hear Les Miles talk it's almost like he's trying to give that defining moment speech all the time. With the "damn fine ball team" speech, to the Pregame Tennessee/LSU speech it just seems over the top. I haven't listened to the way he talks bout the other SEC teams but to me he'll say this about our buckeyes "They're good we can't wait to play them"...He comes off like he's thinking "Ohio State? yeah right like they'll hang with us" thats what I think. It's like he's not creative enough to hide his biased opinion about the game. I'm sure Tressel thinks OSU will win this game but man you'd never guess it if you heard him speech. Same thing with many of the other great college coaches like Urban, Carr, Paterno, Brown, and Bowden.

Erratic and Brash -yes. His coaching style may be in question, but not his ability to parlay a raise.

"I am the coach of LSU, have a nice day." (and I just leveraged and pretty good salary increase for myself)

DBB hit the nail on the head. A healthy Glenn Dorsey is the most dominant player in college football, regardless of position. I really wish he had been healthy against Arkansas, because him vs. Luigs would have been a hell of a matchup on the offensive line. Regardless, he has the ability to take over the game, and we wont win a shootout against LSU. It will need to be a low scoring defensive struggle if we want to win.

By winning an SEC championship?

I find it funny that people are saying Miles used Michigan to get a raise. He didn't even get a raise. The salary portion of his contract hasn't changed. By winning the SEC, he was gauranteed to become one of the 3 highest paid coaches in the SEC (nothing to do with Michigan opening). If he wins the BCS title game, he's gauranteed to become on of the top 3 highest paid coaches in the country (again nothing to do with Michigan opening). These raises were written into his original contract long before Carr retired. His raises are based on those incentives.

LSU fans have also been critical of Les, particularly clock management. We've also been puzzled by the teams apparent lackluster 1st half play in just about every game this year.

I wish Bo would have blitzed more this year. It was effective when we did.

Don't agree with the term shoddy. You don't accumulate the record the Tigers did the past three seasons with shoddy coaching.

Les is not the most articulate coach standing in front of the cameras. On that we can agree. But I'll take his passion and enthusiasm over an English major anyday. :wink2:

toledoblade.com -- LSU's Miles signs extension

You're correct about the salary increase, but the talk about moving to scUM didn't hurt his bargaining position. He did have the termination clause changed, so maybe he is concerned about his job. I don't know, but all this sounds pretty fishy to me. He wasn't leveraging all the scUM talk and now he's a lock at LSU? Personally, I'm glad he stayed at LSU. He sucks when he's in front of the camera and he has an certain edge that is uncharacteristic for someone of his position.

Also, the contract termination clause was changed. If LSU fires Miles without cause, the coach could be owed as much as $15 million, up from $10 million.

Charles Alexander was hurt during the season, not before.

We have no excuse for losing to Kentucky. There were injuries but Kentucky was without Rafael Little I believe and Kentucky straight up beat us. No excuses for that game at all, any LSU fans providing excuses is just in denial. Game should've been handled much better and Charles Scott was running all over Kentucky but didn't get the ball in the 2nd half until OT.

Arkansas game, we couldn't stop McFadden or Jones last year, same story this year. We were much worse off injury wise in this game than Kentucky, but I think in the end our defense just didn't deliver. And I think when Flynn was just really off in the first half and struggling we needed to put Perrilloux in for a change of pace. But yeah, defense should've made the stop on 4th and 10 to end the game.

But that's all over with... things happen, you win some you lose some. What matters is we're in the NC, but I still hate when we make excuses for the Kentucky game when there are none, we just got beat plain and simple.
