Quit your bragging... I could do the same project... it'd only take me a couple days... OK, a week... "Hun, where's that damn How-To-Do-It-Yourself book again... Yes dear, we'll call Roy if it's not done by February..."Spend today installing a new kitchen sink, faucet and garbage disposal. The disposal was the worst part.

For those in the know, Bob Villa is a moron and constantly gets in the way of those who are ACTUALLY working.
Call yourself Norm Abrahms if you want to toot your own horn.
I'm looking forward to finishing my basement in a few years, or as soon as we have some money. The biggest thing that worries me is that we seem to live in a low area and the sump pump runs about twice an hour. I definitely need to look into a battery back up for the sump pump before I worry about finishing the basement. Does anyone know how a computer UPS would work for that?

I also think we will need a shed or something in the back once we get a mower and anything else for the yard. The garage is barely big enough for both cars so we can't put anything else into it.
So far the only work I've done was to put a power outlet into the cabinet in the kitchen so I could plug in the microwave, installed a hanging pot rack to clear out some of the limited cupboard space, ran the water hose for the fridge, and cleaned out some of the gutters. My fiance wants to paint the lower bathroom before we have a party on the 28th.
Hawg,
I know a buddy of mine whose basement flooded last year after the ice storm b/c his sump pump quit. Their electric was out for about 4 days.
Now he has a home security system and if the electric goes out, the company calls him so he knows his sump pump isn't working.
The bad thing about basements where sump pumps are needed, even if you have a back up, it's only going to last 6-8 hours until it quits and if you are out of town, you're screwed. That's when a generator is needed.
I think a generator would be a good invesment first of all.

I'm going to hook up my current computer UPS to see how long it will run the sump to see how powerful of a UPS I should get. Even if I don't get a generator right now a UPS should power the sump long enough that I could run over to Walmart and buy a generator before it floods.
Wouldn't you be worried about the back-up getting wet or just collecting enough moisture to be ruined and not work at all?
I would put it high enough on the wall that it would take forever to get wet. The basement doesn't have a lot of moisture outside of the sump pump. I just figure it would be cheaper to buy a UPS than a new sump pump with a backup when the current sump pump is perfectly good. I just wonder how long a UPS will be able to power a sump pump for 2 20 second bursts an hour?
Lendak would've just knocked down the house and used the parts more efficiently to build a five-story mansion. By Tuesday. Without help from Chuck Norris.
