June Jones: Bring on the best
The Hawaii coach feels the Warriors are capable of competing with anyone
By Dave Reardon

Oregon State is next on the schedule, but June Jones and his Warriors are ready for the world. The Hawaii coach feels his team can compete with the best in college football, and he wants to expand the game internationally.

At his weekly news conference yesterday, Jones addressed a comment he made after Saturday's victory over Purdue about being able to beat top-ranked and undefeated Ohio State. He also revisited the topic of marketing UH football and playing games in Asia and Australia.

When asked about the Ohio State remark, Jones said the No. 24 Warriors -- who have won nine straight and seven in a row at home -- can compete with anyone at Aloha Stadium.

"I feel like right now, you bring anybody in here, no matter who it is, we're gonna have a chance to outscore 'em," Jones said. "Our defense is playing well enough. There's some areas we obviously have to get better in, both offensively and defensively. But we can compete with anybody at home."

Hawaii (10-2) leads the nation in scoring, total offense and passing offense. UH quarterbacks coach Dan Morrison -- not known for hyperbole -- said the Warriors offense "might be the best ever in college football."

Most of UH's offensive fireworks have been against Western Athletic Conference teams with poor defenses. But the Warriors piled up a season-high 653 yards and pulled out a 42-35 win in the fourth quarter against Purdue (8-5) of the Big Ten on Saturday. Jones said Boilermakers coach Joe Tiller -- whose team played against Notre Dame's Brady Quinn -- told him UH quarterback Colt Brennan is the best quarterback he's seen.

... [yada yada yada] ...

Hawaii would indeed play us very tough in Aloha Stadium if we played them after the Big Ten season. If we played there at the beginning of the season, we'd win by a couple TDs. The distance/timezone factor is too much to downplay. But if Hawaii were to play us in The Shoe--regardless of what point in the season--we'd blow them out...

June is smokin' some of that good Maui shit!
Even with the home cookin', they would get destroyed!
We put 42 on probably the best defense in the country, how many would we put on that pathetic defense?
70? 80?
Only the clock would stop the scoring!
But, maybe he got the notice for his team he was looking for! :pimp:

I love watching Hawaii football. Their passing game is unbelievable. If Colt Brennan played for ND, he's have the Heisman wrapped up already.

I have no problewm with him saying they would give us a game at their stadium, they probably would, just because the travel factor is damn big.

We'd wear them out by the second half and Brennan would start taking alot of shots. All qb's change wqhen they start getting beat up.

They're a fun team to watch and a very easy team to win money for you by taking the over in all their games.

From a spectator view, they're a fun team to watch, especially at home.

A lot of you who are saying they wouldn't stand a chance on their field need to ask Michigan State, Northwestern, and Alabama how tough they can be at home (all three have lost at Hawaii during the past few seasons). The travel/timezone factor is huge. Both Michigan State and Northwestern jumped out to big early leads only to tire and get blown off the field from the second quarter on. We're 3 TDs better on a neutral field of equal travel time (West Coast), but playing 5-6 hours out of your timezone is really tough...and the Hawaii crowd can be as loud--on a per-person basis--as most college venues.

Those very same Michigan State and Northwestern teams that lost at Hawaii in 2004 nealry beat us (MSU) and did beat us (Northwestern) the same year. Laugh some more, dipshit...

Nobody beat us this year, which, I think is the Ohio State team at issue. June Jones has spent too much time in the sun.

You're referencing my quote, which dealt with BN27's laughing at the fact that Hawaii beat two teams, one of which beat and the other almost beat us. Jones is quite optimistic to think his Hawaii team would actually beat us on their field...they would give us a much tougher game than most on this board would care to admit.
