No one on BP has better info than UF...this is a free site and you are likewise free to believe whoever you want. But when UF speaks, I listen...

I don't doubt UF or you or any of the other recruiting team. I enjoy the time I spend reading BP and all the posts and throwing my 2 cents in once in a while. I have the utmost respect for each of your opinions. Please don't misinterpet this as disrespectful in any way.

There is however a big difference between first hand knowledge and any knowledge that has been disseminated through multiple sources. Info tends to get lost in translation (damn that movie for taking away all meaning from an otherwise useful saying).

All I really care to get across is there is no reason to rip on this kid the way some posters have. If he has changed his mind, so be it. It doesn't make him a bad person, just indecisive. tOSU has had a rough go in recent days recruiting, but that is no reason to blame him or any other recruit. Each recruit must choose their own plot. Maybe he should have choose his words more selectively early in the recruiting process, but at 17 very few of us can say we didn't renege on a promise or 2. We just didn't have the eyes of multiple schools throngs of followers watching us to scrutinize us.

UF speaks directly with staff members...just not for tOSU. I know this for a fact.

Agreed and it won't happen here.

O#1B...I know you aren't being disrespectful. The only thing that is first hand knowledge is knowing what is in the kid's heart...that is impossible to determine given how many kids enjoy the recruiting "game". I think you are dead on...if a kid wants to change his mind, then so be it.

So.....basically...in a nutshelll...you agree with UF and his inside info?

Yes but I went into detail with it. I know union will go into detail but it appeared nobody understood why anyone would be upset with JB and how he handled the recruiting process and I thought to go into detail would shed more light on it so everyone else would understand. Also, union wasn't the only one who has said this...the evidence is there from many sources.

Yeah, that's what Joe said. He tried to do the wholoe fake out thing with the hats, but it was pretty obvious which one he was going for. Then he said that he will be "attending the University of LSU." And that was that.

NEXT!

45 - Thank you for your comments. As I have said many times before, you and all the BPRT do a great job so the rest of us can be up to speed without all the work.

Back to the topic at hand-

"The University of LSU."

That was funny.

He did one of those lame hat fake things that for a meger second had me hoping he was going back to the Buckeye hat. I guess I am still a sucker after all:)

I wrote an email about this to the recruiting team, if you feel like it post in the rumor mill, but here's the scoop with this kid:

Barksdale wanted to commit to OSU prior to the February 2006 signing day. OSU told him they wanted to see him get into better shape and they'll offer him at the NIKE combine (they ended up sooner due to the Michigan commitment). The kid worked his ass off, and got himself into pretty decent shape. He went to the Army All American Junior combine and blew up, Michigan started to show him love, (they offered him during the summer the year before, but as an OG and really didn't push him too hard) and he committed to them at a UM basketball game in February.

Now JT loves to steal a recruit or two from Michigan, so OSU kept recruiting Joe like nothing happened, and offered him soon afterward, and he committed on the spot. Michigan hears this and drops him, that's a policy of theirs if a kid changes his mind they drop them (So many to think of but Justin King, Nic Harris, Thad Gibson, Dionte Allen), no going back, their feeling is they can't trust you so goodbye, I love OSU and the way the handle business on the field compared to Michigan, but I wish we took this policy from them, especially with our elite status in CFB.

Fast forward to his trip to Austin in July and he commits to Texas, in which they throw a quick party for him and his dad when he commits. Right there JT should have dropped him, I remember saying to him that this is one of those kids who believes he's above the program, but JT claimed that the bottom line is that it makes sense for him to come to OSU at the end of the day especially since Michigan dropped him. The only true worry was ND. Joe committed to OSU 3 times folks. once after the Michigan commitment, once after the Texas commitment, and once after the ND commitment, before settling on LSU two weeks prior to christmas. It was a debacle.

thanks, uf. this kid is a walking soap opera who appears to be an attention whore, too. sorry. i don't like to talk bad about a recruit that chooses another program, but barksdale's goal was transparent: to have his ego stroked by programs he likely knew he wouldn't commit to. it's just unfortunate that ohio state's staff didn't recognize this earlier... or at least just act on it.
