Dead period is misleading, you can talk to recruits during dead periods. Here is the definition....

"The college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents at any time in the dead period. The coach may write and telephone you or your parents during this time."

On the 2nd, it'll switch to a Quiet Period.

So whats the definition of the quiet period??

Talks about his in-home with Mack Brown...still has in-homes with OSU and Florida...trying to get everything done in order to graduate and enroll early...says he is 100% sure that he has not decided where he is going yet.

A quiet period is....

"The college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents off the college's campus. The coach may not watch you play or visit your high school during this period. You and your parents may visit a college campus during this time. A coach may write or telephone you or your parents during this time."

He's always confused me w/ the enroll early talk. If he hasn't decided, yet still has in-homes before he decides, where exactly can he enroll early?

Obviously, he could do Spring quarter at OSU. Winter quarter is seemingly out as it starts on Monday.

Then, I looked at the other finalists' academic calendars since they are semester schools. Florida starts January 5, while Texas starts a little later at January 19. Texas' start date gives him enough time to get those in-homes in, decide, and still enroll. Florida doesn't.

Another sign pointing to Texas?

I'm not sure how it reads, but judging from Grad's summary, he's either trying to build up the suspense for his announcement (and a letdown for the Buckeye fans) or the Buckeyes are in a better situation with him than we've been led to believe.

Jordan Hicks is definitely not the type of kid to build up the suspense regarding his announcement, so if either part of your statement is correct, then it would be the latter. However, I think that Jordan was simply trying to say that he is still undecided, and that he has not eliminated Ohio State yet - nothing more, nothing less.

That's what made it confusing, because he's been nothing but upfront with what he's let the media in on about his recruiting, but yet we've hardly had anything to get excited about with the possibility of gaining his committment.

Undecided at this point in his recruitment is about as much as a Buckeye fan could hope for. Thanks LJB.

For the love of the game
Jordan Hicks' first love was hoops, but things change when you're the nation's No. 1 LB By Gerry Hamilton

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Linebacker Jordan Hicks (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) hasn't always been the hard-hitting, blitzing nightmare that earned him back-to-back All-State honors in the Buckeye State.

Long before reaching Under Armour All-American status, the No. 2 prospect in the ESPNU 150 had dreams of success in another sport. It was Carolina blue and white, the Dean Dome and Michael Jordan. Hicks loved basketball.

At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Jordan Hicks has ideal size and an intense motor.

"I played basketball my whole life ever since I was little," said Hicks. "Basketball was my first love. My first time ever playing football was in fifth grade in South Carolina. I played running back and safety. Then I moved to Ohio, but didn't play that year because I missed the cut off date for the league. After that, I've played football from seventh grade until now and love it."

Lakota West head coach Larry Cox remembers his first sit down conversation with Hicks entering his freshman year.

"When he came out of his eight grade year, because I knew watching him he was going to be a big-time football player, I asked what are your dreams?" Cox said. "He said I'm going to play guard at the University of North Carolina. I said you are, well, we'll see how it rolls, but keep football in the back of your mind."

"As we got through his freshman year of football and AAU basketball, he still was there with basketball, but was thinking about football. His sophomore year he started piling up offers and seeing everybody getting taller too and knew it was time to start thinking about football. By the end of his sophomore year he decided he was going to be a college football player, but he still got offers in basketball from some reputable programs."

Four years later, Hicks has become the most heavily recruited linebacker in the country with offers from coast-to-coast and his passion has changed.
