Johnny Carson (R.I.P.)

Yep, she joined Martha Raye, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope on the USO Christmas Tour.

Did you know this about her?

Colonel Maggie ? Nurse, Entertainer, and Honorary Green Beret

Almost everyone knows about all of Bob Hope?s trips to Vietnam. He would do his annual Christmas Shows for TV, which were recorded live at some of the safest bases in Vietnam, while surrounded by TV cameras, reporters and lots of tanks and protective armed troops. I was at his Christmas Day show back in 1966, just north of Saigon. I enjoyed it very much. It was one of a few good memories that I have of my Tour of Duty. But, meeting Martha Raye ? better known to the troops, as Colonel Maggie ? was the highlight event of the year for me.

Martha Raye is the only woman buried in the SF (Special Forces) cemetery at Ft Bragg.

Ever see the show with the talking dog? Sadly, cannot find a video clip of it, though I did find this post. Not sure it's about the same dog, as I remember the owner being an older woman.

OK I'm going to sound like I'm crazy, but YES! When I was 13 I lived near a man with Samoyeds who talked. He had these dogs on the Johnny Carson Show. You know, the one Jay Leno just gave up and Conan took over. LOL..Yep I'm old. The dogs name were Bing Crosby and Yukon Cornelius. I used to groom these dogs for him and take them for walks. he explained that all dogs could learn to do it and some did it naturally. Yukon did not inherit the ability from his father Bing, but he did learn and they understood questions. Mr Percle said that Bing was able to do more and that his ability was like throwing your voice. I know he wasn't doing it because when Bing was bathed once he looked at me and a friend and said "good bye" and went home! When I first told my mother about these dogs I was grounded for 2 weeks for lying!Mr Percle was an appliance repair man. When my mom's washer broke, she went to Mr. Percle. When she came out of the shop she apologized to me and said she had talk to the dogs and they answered her. I STILL remind her of being grounded about that.

Anyway, they had a dog on, and everybody was laughing it up because this silly person was crazy enough to think her dog could talk. Then the little mutt looked up and said "hello" as clearly as any human. The way I remember it, Carson's jaw dropped, he threw his arms in the air and swirled backwards around on his chair while the audience screamed. Best. Reaction. Ever.
