John Calipari (official thread of impending probation)

Ever see that Calipari '30 for 30' they did? He straight up says he isn't about winning titles; he's about getting "his" kids to the next level. Thing is, when he eventually leaves, there will inevitably be a step backwards. For all their angst, he's still winning 81% of his games, conference titles more often than not and has taken them to 4 Final Fours. Then, of course there's the fact that he's left each school he's left on probation in his wake.

UK basketball fans remind me a lot of many tOSU football fans in that it's "NC or bust" pretty much every year. That's a miserable way to go through life, because winning national championships is goddamned hard (except for Saban). I'd argue it's actually MUCH harder in basketball.
I would too.

I’m from Kentucky and all of my best buddies are diehard Kentucky fans. I can tell you that they absolutely expected Cal to have no less than three or four titles by now. They are not happy with the fact the the coach that they claim “changed college Basketball” has the same number of titles as Rick Pitino, who the loathe, and Tubby Smith, a guy they ran out of Lexington.

And to make matters even worse, they very well may see Coach K win his sixth title this year at the school they hate just as much as they do Louisville. Kentucky fans, for the most part, don’t give a shit about the NBA and never watch it. You’ll occasionally see one thump their chest over Anthony Davis or John Wall. They want to win it all. Winning 81% of the games, cool...they’d be a lot more happy if Cal had a 70% win percentage with three banners in the rafters.

Not surprising. I don’t think people in Kentucky care about any professional sports unless you count NASCAR or the Reds. And let’s be real, the Reds are minor league and NASCAR is closer to playing a video game than playing a sport. They just sit and drive. Is it tough? Absolutely. Doesn’t mean it’s a sport any more than brain surgery is a sport. UK is all they have and they already crowned Cal as their Harbaugh savior. One of their rivals, in their own state no less, having the same number of championships (a dirty one at that lol) as Cal and UK has to be eating them from the inside out.

I honestly don’t know many who care about NASCAR. It’s literally in this order for them.

UK basketball

SEC football
UK football

That’s pretty much it for sports in Kentucky. Except the first Saturday in May. That’s a big deal.
