It just occurred to me that some people on BP might be too young to have seen the Apocalypse Now segment where Robert DeNiro tells a a young surfing champion, now under his command as a troop, that "charlie don't surf!", as he tries to get the young man into the water to show off his surfing skills while an air cavalry attack is underway.

When I commented below, I referred to DeNiro's calm demeanor on the beach with mortars striking all around him, from about the 1 minute point of the second link. The "charlie don't surf" comment starts the first link. lv's comment about napalm is at about the 5 minute mark of the second link.

DeNiro was filming a very different Vietnam flick (The Deer Hunter), telling Christopher Walken that "Charlie don't play Russian Roulette!"

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel wasn't way out of character when he stepped to the lectern for his weekly news conference today, but for a second he had on his baseball game face. "How 'bout that Tribe, huh?" he said, smiling.

Nice read!! What is amazing is how much Charlie and Urban make compared to their peers. Urban at least earned some of his but wow to get paid 3+ million and win one game this year. The worst part is not even getting any heat to be fired. Joe Torre may want that job.. We are so lucky to have JT and Andy G needs another pat on the back. Put OSU on a whole new playing field.

Classic Coach Tressel after the Kent game:


COACH TRESSEL: ....James, why don't you comment on your injury, since that was the first question.
LAURINAITIS: It's nothing serious, just I got kicked in the hip and was getting stiff and at one point in the game Coach Fickel talked with the trainers and made the decision to keep me out and not go back in and risk that.
COACH TRESSEL: So you'll be ready for the banquet in December?
LAURINAITIS: I'll be ready for practice on Tuesday.

I didn't hear the tone of JT's question. Was this a shot at some players enjoying Thanksgiving leftovers a little too much last year during the long layoff?
