Given his choice, Jim Thome would have preferred to be playing for the Indians next year. The Indians considered it before Philadelphia traded Thome to the White Sox. Here's what the Phillies asked for when they met with the Indians at the general managers meetings in early November: outfielder Coco Crisp, top pitching prospect Charles Lofgren and another prospect.

Jim Thome sits again with groin strain

<!-- begin body-content -->CHICAGO - Jim Thome was out of the Chicago White Sox's starting lineup for a second straight game Saturday night with a strained left groin and could be sidelined until Tuesday.
Thome, who leads the AL with 20 homers and 52 RBIs, said he tweaked it in his last at-bat Thursday in Cleveland. Manager Ozzie Guillen's plan is to also keep his DH on the bench Sunday and with an off-day Monday hope that Thome will be ready to go Tuesday when Chicago opens a key series against first-place Detroit.
"It's definitely way better than it was yesterday," said Thome, adding the strain restricts his ability to push off when he hits.
"That's the frustrating thing. When you get those little injuries you want to be out there," Thome said.
The White Sox had lost four straight before Saturday night's game and have not played well lately, even when Thome was healthy.
"To me, it's more important to have him for the rest of the season," Guillen said. "That's why we really put attention on it. It's not that bad. You just make sure he's in the right place. ... We will take a real close look at it and make sure he'll be fine."
And Guillen said if the groin is an issue at all, there is no way Thome will go in the field at first base for the first time this season when the White Sox play interleague games in National League parks.
"He was taking groundballs, and if that's going to hurt him, he's not playing," Guillen said.
The White Sox's first interleague road game is June 16 at Cincinnati, and Thome hopes he'll be ready.
"The main thing is to focus and do the treatment and get back as quickly as possible," Thome said. "It's important to get it done now, get it cleared up and get it going and when we do get in those interleague games, I can play out there."
For the second straight game in Thome's absence, Paul Konerko served as the DH with Ross Gload starting at first against the Texas Rangers.

Designated hitter Jim Thome sat out his second straight game last night because of a left hamstring strain as the Chicago White Sox began a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins.
Thome has improved since getting hurt Wednesday night in Detroit. Manager Ozzie Guillen said he doesn’t expect Thome to be put on the disabled list and said there’s a chance Thome could appear this weekend as a pinch-hitter. Thome is hitting .294 with 36 homers and 91 RBI.

Milestones have been falling from the sky with such frightening frequency this season, it's a wonder Major League Baseball has not provided hard hats for fans.
The big one, of course, was Barry Bonds surpassing Hank Aaron for the all-time home run record. Sammy Sosa became just the fifth member of the 600-home run club. Frank Thomas and Alex Rodriguez each hit his 500th homer, and Craig Biggio lashed his 3,000th hit.
On the mound, Tom Glavine won his 300th game, and Trevor Hoffman got his 500th save.
Jim Thome, the Chicago White Sox power-hitting designated hitter, is still a fan at heart, so he watched in awe. Adding a little drama to the situation is the fact that Thome is next in line to take his shot at a milestone.

Also in my defense, Rowand is turning into quite the ball player.....at a position of need for Chicago right now.In my defense, most of my hatred towards Thome was from the fact that he played in the worst sports city in America before coming to Chicago.
