Jim Knowles (DC Penn St.)

Egbuka's fumble was the real "turning point". Was another time killing drive to put the game away and it turned into a 14 point swing in their favor instead.
They didn’t scored after the egbuka fumble. They drove and then clanked a FG. So it remained a 16 pt game. The drive with the fumble was a turning point in that we were about to go up 19 or 23 and put the game out of reach. Then after the missed field goal the offense went into run out the clock mode (way too early) and Knowles (as he’s famous for) went super aggressive and gave up 80 yards in 6 plays.

I don't recall the full details, other than the rebuttal to "it was close" is "not without the Egbuka fumble, it's not".

I don't recall ND ever getting big "chunk" plays. It was all slow drives.
I believe that if Ohio State did not convert that 3rd and 11, and had to punt, ND would have run out of time before scoring a touchdown (and attempting a 2-pt to tie).
They were down 24 and needed 3 miracle TDs with 2 point conversions, all without us scoring one point. They got 2 of their miracles. They were never getting a 3rd with that clown offense they were running.

All of their drives until their final TD drive either ate up a lot of time and led to a score or were 3 and outs.
Their last possession they went 80 yards in 6 plays in about 2 minutes. If 3rd and Jeremiah didn’t convert then they would have had about 2:20-2:30 after the punt. So they did have a chance.

And we've see what Knowles defense is capable of when the other team has a chance.
