Jim Knowles (DC Penn St.)

He's going to be managing an all night bowling alley on 3rd shift in the next couple of years.
Only if that’s what he wants to do. He’s made lifetime money since he came to the B1G.
He's gonna blow that money on hookers. "Big Game James" is going to change meanings, but still be applicable.
Then, Jax's idea, and "Big Game James" is going to take on a third meaning.

How good is/was Jim Knowles, and how important was he to last year's NC run?

I think the players truly took over after that TSUN loss and rose above the DC.

I don't know what Day said to Knowles after the Oregon loss, but to me, things didn't improve that much on the defensive side after that, and the defense was night and day after the legendary players' meeting. Knowles's 3 years of coaching here tell me that the meeting was the real magic point.

Young players often look up to coaches for guidance, sometimes too much (which I think was the case for Kyle McCord as well). Patricia clearly is better at unleashing players' potential.

I want to know what happened between Knowles and LJ Sr. There were all sorts of rumors about egos and who knows what else getting in the way of implementing odd fronts (much less the Jack) on defense, and that LJ Sr. insisting on coaching anyone rushing the QB was a primary barrier.

Fast forward a year and Patricia immediately implemented 2 to 6 man fronts and everything in between with LBs and DL rushing and dropping into coverage interchangeably and seamlessly.

Whatever the real story is behind what happened last year would be an interesting story, but it seems more clear than ever that the problem was primarily Knowles.

Yeah, some people just piss you off. I’m thinking LJS looked at Knowles like

As long as that is the time people rent lanes by the hour. I think as long as there's no real."figurin" he should quite like that job.

All the colorful characters..
