Jim Bollman (Stay calm and run Dave)

With Braxton at QB and the stable of RBs this team has (to include Boren at FB), the triple option would be awesome to watch I think.

It took Bollman ten years to establish the offensive identity that we witnessed against Michigan State. For some reason, I highly doubt he could successfully implement the triple option in a week.

...the triple is based on not blocking certain people...therefore, I think the transition would not be very rough :)

A boss of mine once told me he didn't care how many hours I put in, he cared only about the results.

I don't doubt Coach Bollman is a fine man who works really long hours. It's the results that have never seemed to measure up to fan expectations.

The long hours, no vacation mentality fits into the Protestant work ethic, but there's much to suggest that longer hours lowers productivity and does not inherently produce a better product. Take your pick from the following:

This is very true. If you focus too hard on one thing for a long period of time, you get tunnel vision and can't see the forest for the trees. Happens all the time. Maybe they should throw caution to the wind and think outside their box and see what happens.

Also, I have heard a couple of times from Fickell that they had a gameplan and stuck with it on the offensive side of the ball. Well, if the gameplan is not working through 2 quarters of football, maybe it is time to scrap said gameplan and try something else. All I know is that something has to give on the offensive side of the ball. There is way too much talent that Ohio State fields to have these types of results so far this year.

As far as the amount of hours worked, those hours are common for football coaches. All of the OSU coaches, GA's and interns put in crazy hours like that. Coach Bollman and Coach Heacock both seemed to put in a bit extra due to their coordinator responsibilities. The point I was making is that Bolls works hard for his money and he doesn't just sit there with his thumb up his ass.

As a Marine and combat veteran, I have worked around some impressive leaders and impressive men. Bolls, to me, is in the same company respect wise as most that I served with.

Think about where you work, and people like Jim Bollman. Nice guy and all, but he has been here all this time and gets no love, no interest from other schools, etc., no one offering him a HC job.

As many people have remarked recently, who knew that Jim Tressell was the real motivator behind the offense??

I choose to believe that Luke Fickell has a lot of respect for Bollman and so is hesitant to either call him out, take responsibility away from him or can him. That's understandable. I also would like to believe that soon, Fickell will see this all clearly, and realize that his very young HC career and reputation is being hurt by the results so far this season, and hopefully do something like bring in another Offensive mind to start making some changes.

And let's give Taylor Graham some game time before he transfers to Arkansas!!!

Go Bucks.

At the end of the day, Bolls is a very very solid coach, mentor and coordinator... .Do I think this is probably his last year here... yep. absolutely. He is not the first coach or coordinator who is very good at his job to most likely be ushered out after a bad, bad year and he won't be the last.

I don't doubt hes a great guy, but seriously, a very very solid coach and coordinator? No a chance.
And he wont be ushered out "after a bad bad year", more like "a bad bad decade"

Food for thought. This needs to be brought out and dusted off every now and again.

Official NCAA Statistics:
Total Offense:
Year Rank
2011 108
2010 20
2009 68
2008 76
2007 62
2006 26
2005 32
2004 98
2003 93
2002 70
2001 65

2010 and 2006 Ohio State cracks the top 30 in total offense. Right now schools like Minny and Purdue are ahead of Ohio State offensively. Purdue is actually in the 40s right now. If Ohio State could somehow muster a 40th ranked offense they would be undefeated right now.

Bollman's track record with O linemen and offensive production speaks for itself. I also blame Tressel. No reason and elite football program should have those kind of offensive numbers over the last 10 years. Not with the kind of talent they bring in.

People (myself included) killed Herbstriet when he said if he had a son who was an offensive player he wouldn't send him to Ohio State, but if you look at those numbers objectively it's kind of hard to argue with him.

My problem with Kirk saying that was that he can influence recruits with his "analysis". Saying it during a nationally televised game had the potential to change many recruits minds that were considering Ohio State. I totally agreed with what he said but I don't think it was cool of him to say it when he did.
