Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

Remember, Buckeye fans, as you go buy your brand new Nike gear, that a portion of that money funds the Oregon football team they're playing.

Indeed.

Nike is paying Oregon $600,000 in cash and $2.2 million in an equipment allowance this year. Ohio State's contract calls for $1.5 million in cash and $2.5 million in equipment from Nike.

I know there's other money at play when it comes to Nike U, but I thought the numbers above were interesting considering that tOSU was higher on both counts.

Yup... the amount of dollars that Uncle Phil throws at the program far exceed uniform allotments:

Here's a piece about donations to the school... and another about his connection to athletics that estimates $300 million thus far from Phil to U of O.

And yet, the athletic department is dependent upon student fees to survive- fees that still don't allow "regular" students to access any of the "Jock Box" facilities.

In all my years of Ohio State Football, I can't ever remembering watching the Buckeyes win a National Championship game, in Scarlet Jerseys. I know nothing of the 42' 54' 57' Nat/Champs and what colors they were in. But I do remember the 68 Rosebowl game and they were wearing the white jerseys with gray pants. Maybe this could be the year, if they Win the game. Just a thought here.
54, 57, & 68 were won at the Rose Bowl. In those days the Big Ten reps were always in their away unis. That didn't change until some time in the 70s when the conferences began trade the right to home jerseys. 03 the Bucks wore white because OSU was the lower ranked team.

61 team didn't go bowling. They laid 50 on Michigan at Ann Arbor wearing white jerseys.

42 NC was declared at the end of the 42 season, which meant the Michigan game which would have been in Columbus. The Buckeyes did not play in a bowl game. If we go by photo of Les Horvath it would seem that the Buckeyes wore white jerseys at home that season.

So yes, this seems like the first chance to win an NC in scarlet jerseys.

BTW, Georgia played UCLA in Pasadena 1/1/43 and also claims an NC for 42. The previous year, the 1941 season, the Rose Bowl was played in Durham, NC because Pearl Harbor had taken place less than a month earlier.

It would be fitting if we won in scarlet jerseys for the first time. It's been a year full of firsts, most notably the first ever Playoff National Championship.
