Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

I fEAR NED.

For the record, this is the only uniform change I'd ever support:

Best uniform. Any sport. Any era.

Would love to get the oversized numbers & pants with the sparkle in them back..

With that said..

If the players like them, cool. I wish they would stop fucking with traditions but it's not just Nike, look at Mirror lake.. no longer on Thursday. We aren't playing on the 3rd weekend in Novemember, etc. are bigger breaks from traditions then wearing a throwback, IMO.

This jersey Saturday is legit throwback - and I am a fan. I think it's very cool they had a former player from that team help design it, and if the players dig it, I'm down.

... we're not talking about "just jerseys". We're talking about money.
Absolutely right.

Any of you who are so exercised about these unis has a simple remedy available - outbid Nike. Otherwise, unless you're willing to make up the funding shortfall yourself, learn to live in the real world.

Yup- this falls back to money. As does a majority of college sports.

I wonder, though- if Nike were a major donor to the University of Mich1gAAn, would we be so quick to acquiesce? That's what troubles me most; changes to the tradition will happen, but it shouldn't happen in ways that will ultimately fund another program.

1001 ways to make money. Do these jerseys for 2 other games besides this 1 if you need the audience/exposure. Add more numbers available each year for the regular jerseys. And so on and so forth...

The reason they want this game is exactly because it's been the same for so many years. The reason this game and this rivalry have so much value to Nike, is exactly opposite of what they would do to it. It's the same reason the name "Big Ten" is staying, no matter how many teams are in the conference. It takes lots of time to build "brands", mess with the ingredients a little, and it takes no time to destroy it. That is the real world...

Right and right. I agree with gene smith on this, if the players are cool with it and it isn't tacky looking uniform than I'm completely ok with it. As long as we don't go the way of the oregon ducks and start putting little buckeye nuts on our shoulder pads.

COLUMBUS ? For the second straight year, Ohio State will wear special uniforms when it plays against Michigan.

Ohio State was one of 10 teams chosen to wear special uniforms designed by Nike. The Buckeyes' design this year is geared to salute the Buckeyes' 1942 national championship team, which includes a scarlet helmet instead of the customary gray one.

"They look kind of sweet," senior defensive end Cameron Heyward said of the helmets. "It's a different thing. You don't always get a chance to do this and when you do you cherish it."

Said Brian Rolle, "The helmets are awesome. I love our gray helmets, but those red helmets kind of stick out."

Besides the scarlet helmet, the uniforms ? called the Pro Combat Replica Rivalry 1942 Throwback Jersey ? includes scarlet tops with white numbers outlined in black. The pants are solid gray.

To a man, the special uniforms got a thumbs-up.

"To be able to come out here and do that again and be able to have another jersey hung up on your wall and stuff, it's really neat that they're doing it," senior Dexter Larimore said. "It really shows how much Nike cares about us. I think it's great to be able to be a part of that."

Call me an ass but when it comes to players being in charge of the Buckeyes uniform design I feel about the same as I do about 20 y/o LCPLs to be in charge of weapons procurement for the USMC.

My question is if you could choose between

A. The change of jerseys but get a win.

or

B. The same jerseys but take a loss.

I am sure we would all be fine with the jersey change. Fuck scUM.
