Jeff Hafley (DC Green Bay Packers)

I do think NCAA should move early signing period a month in either direction bc of this exact situation. It puts teams in playoff at a disadvantage because of Assistant coach uncertainty.

BC is behind 8-ball bc their new head coach is committed to current job, and OSU is dealing with a coach who isn’t 100% focused on next opponent. It’s basically a lose/lose.

And Clemson is dealing with same dilemma. For an end of year playoff, when you want the best product on field and everybody at the sharpest, you’re dropping these dramatic life changing bombs in significant people’s lives. They should tweak the calendar.

Only positive thing I have to say is, I’m glad he was man enough to do it before the kids signed their LOI’s and not a couple days after.

It would suck to lose any of them over this but in the long run it’s best for the young men.

That's what I assumed all those recruiting visits were in the last week.
Hafley telling them in person, not going public... but letting them know what's going on.
... but now we got recruits being quoted... saying Hafley told them he wasn't going anywhere just a couple days ago. If that turns out true, it's a bad look. Feels like the rumors just reached a level that there was no more denying it, rather than anyone having integrity.

Saban started his HC career going 9-2 at Toledo.
So the argument to start at a middling P5 job, instead of a Mid Major... is a guy that started a Mid Major ??
This argument has failed on 3 counts now.

Perhaps I misread your statement, I thought your insinuation that going to a non elite major program was a dead end. I guess I don't see the big difference in going mid-major->middling P5->elite and just skipping the mid-major step. Perhaps it gives him more time for a learning curve if he were to go thru a mid-major but if he's gonna be a great coach then he'll find his way at BC. Also, I'm not sure of many coaches who would choose a mid-major over a mid-level P5 school with several favorable conditions for success.

Priority #1 - Beat Clemson
Priority #2 - Keep the current commits
Priority #3 - Find an amazing replacement for Hafley

You gotta know that Day went into action the moment he was informed about the possibility of Hafley leaving. Just like in every game, he will have a thorough plan and pursue it aggressively. Every hire has been a homerun this far. No reason to think this will not be the case with Hafley's replacement.

No one was pining for Hafley a year ago so give Day the benefit of a doubt. Beat Clemson.

That's wrong it worked out fine with Herman a few years back. Depends on the coach some can divy time effectively others can't.

Exactly. This world isn’t like quitting McDonalds and going to work at Wendy’s. Reputations and relationships are huge. He’s a professional, he’ll do right by tOSU.

Supremely confident.

Luckily, Watts, who was the one quoted as saying Hafley told him he wasn’t leaving, has said he’s 100% still.
