James Quick (WR Louisville)

Everyone is making too big of a deal by way of comparison. James is not Michael Bush and Strong being at Louisville IS a big factor in his commitment.

He may still go to Louisville if Strong leaves but we have almost zero chance if he stays. If he leaves, we have a very strong shot. It really is that simple in the case of James Quick...other recruitments are irrelevant here.

The comparisons are only there to show inconsistency in the argument that 1). UL has only recruited well when they had Charlie Strong; 2). as a corollary, recruits would be turned off to UL because they don't believe UL can maintain competitiveness when Strong leaves. And those are the arguments that were presented by the other posters. Do you have anything to back up your assertion because it's tough to have a discussion if you are just making blanket statements.

I think such a big deal is being made because right now Charlie Strong is the face of the program and everyone expects him to be gone at the end of the year. If we were going against Cincinnatti when they had Chip Kelly it would be the same story.

Even when Chip Kelly was at Cincy we never lost any recruits to them. But that aside, I think too big of a deal is made out of Strong and/or Louisville. Let's put it this way: you are not going to Louisville because you think Strong is a better coach than Meyer or that Strong/UL will develop your talents better than Meyer/OSU.

Wrong Kelly

Numerous insiders are in agreement on the importance of Strong in this particular recruitment. As a broad assertion, you would be right but as to this specific recruitment, the decision of Strong to stay or leave is pretty darn important.

Rivals - Battleground Recruits: Midwest

3. James Quick, WR, Louisville (Ky.) Trinity

The Top247 wide receiver is a pure battleground recruitment. Hometown Louisville, who is enjoying a terrific season, is trying hard to fight off neighboring Ohio State and all the momentum being created by the hire of Urban Meyer and the season unfolding for the Buckeyes. Ohio State will take their official visit swing in late November, but the trail the Cardinals at this point.

National Analyst Steve Wiltfong on Quick?s recruitment: ?Louisville is the hometown favorite for the local star, and Charlie Strong?s future with the Cardinals could have a lot to do with where Quick signs. Ohio State is the other major candidate in the race and Quick sees opportunity in Columbus. He?s been to a few Louisville games this year and he also attended Ohio State?s win over Nebraska. Quick take his official visit to see the Buckeyes again the weekend of Nov. 24 for the Michigan game. Oregon and Tennessee would like to get a crack at Quick as well but currently trail in the polls. If Strong doesn?t leave for another gig, Louisville likely wins this race but Urban Meyer at Ohio State is the best closer in college football recruiting.?

Louisville Courier-Journal - Sunday notebook focuses on Ryan Timmons

11/4

Here?s the link to Sunday?s Courier-Journal recruiting notebook, which led with an update on the recruitment of Franklin Co. High School WR/RB/ATH Ryan Timmons, who is top target of the University of Kentucky and a candidate for Mr. Football this year.

I watched Timmons? game against Scott High on Friday in the first round of the playoffs, and it?s easy to see why he?s a major college prospect ? great speed and lateral quickness, ? he?s particularly great on start-and-stop moves ? and good size for a slot receiver at 5-10, 180.

He?s set to return from an official visit to Purdue today. He?s already been to Arkansas and expects to officially visit Illinois and Ohio State (no offer yet). He said he probably won?t officially visit UK, where he?s been many times already unofficially.

Timmons said he doesn?t have any favorite at this point.

Space in the newspaper is clearly more limited than here on the blogs, so I plan to post some more on Timmons with comments from his coach, Chris Tracy.

***One item not mentioned in the notebook but was in Friday?s Courier-Journal and that I have mentioned on the blog: Trinity stars James Quick (likely the favorite for Mr. Football) and Jason Hatcher were selected to play in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, in January.

Trinity?s Bob Beatty is one of the head coaches in the game, too.

Hatcher, a defensive end, is committed to Southern California.

Quick, a wide receiver, is arguably the top remaining target of Louisville in the 2013 class and also is considering Ohio State, Oregon, Kentucky and Tennessee. The Buckeyes are thought to be the Cardinals? top competition to land Quick.

(Interestingly, what happens with Quick and Ohio State could affect Timmons. Quick has an offer from Ohio State, which has decreased scholarships this year as a part of NCAA probation. If Quick were to pick Louisville, that?s an offer that could potentially go to Timmons. They?re not the same type of player ? Quick figures to be a college wideout, I?d think ? and Timmons is probably a slot guy who could play some tailback. But if the Buckeyes don?t get Quick, maybe they?ll look to Timmons to help round out their class on offense.)

Recruiting Insider | Trinity's James Quick sees Petrino as good fit at Kentucky football
Nov 11, 2012
Written by

The Courier-Journal

All-America Trinity wide receiver James Quick said Friday that Bobby Petrino would be a good candidate for the University of Kentucky?s football coaching vacancy, and hiring him could help the Cats? chances of landing him.

The Cats need some help to have a chance at the Mr. Football front-runner, who reaffirmed Friday that the University of Louisville football team remains atop his recruiting list, with Ohio State and Oregon close behind.

UK, now looking for a coach after Joker Phillips was fired a week ago, is in fourth place ? and it would seem to be a distant fourth ? for Quick, but he said the Wildcats will get one of his five official visits and ?who they bring in will definitely impact what I do with Kentucky.?

A high-profile name that?s been mentioned as a possible candidate for UK is Petrino, the former U of L and Arkansas coach, who recruited Quick before he was fired from the Razorbacks.

Asked generally about potential candidates, Quick ? who on Friday was formally selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January ? said he?d not heard any names mentioned for the UK opening that particularly intrigued him.

Asked specifically about his thoughts on Petrino as a possible replacement, Quick said: ?I think he would fit the job because he?s a great guy and a great coach. As far as him going to Kentucky, that would be a good fit for me if he was there.?

Quick?s interest in U of L, where his father played and where he?s visited for nearly every home game this season, has been a consistent leader for months, and he reaffirmed that strong interest Friday.

?Right now, I just really like the way Teddy Bridgewater is playing,? he said. ?He?s just an outstanding quarterback. The way he looks downfield and gets the ball to his receivers is what I really look into.?

Quick plans to take an official visit to Ohio State the weekend of the Nov. 24 Michigan game and visit U L, Oregon, UK and Tennessee ? currently fifth on his list ? after the season.

He said if he?s ready by the Jan. 5 Army game in San Antonio, he?ll likely announce his decision there on national TV.

Maxpreps - Trinity receiver James Quick leaves game versus St. Xavier on stretcher

11/16

One of the nation's top recruits gave the thumbs up as he exited the stadium Friday night.

Senior receiver James Quick of Trinity (Louisville, Ky.) left the stadium on a stretcher after being hit in Friday night's playoff game against St. Xavier.

With Trinity trailing 14-0, Quick remained on the turf for several minutes after the hit and was eventually put into a neck brace, laid on a stretcher, and taken out of the stadium.

As Quick exited, he did manage to give the thumbs-up sign to the anxious crowd.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete is ranked by MaxPreps as the No. 7 receiver in his class and the No. 44 recruit overall. While Quick has drawn interest from numerous Division I football programs, he has yet to commit to a college.

We will continue to update the story as more details come out.

Trinity WR Quick has fractured rib, status ?day to day?
Posted on November 17, 2012 by Jason Frakes

Trinity High School football coach Bob Beatty said Saturday morning that star wide receiver James Quick has a fractured rib but would not speculate on his status for the rest of the season.

?I think the best way to put that going forward is that he?s day to day,? Beatty said.

Quick was injured during the first quarter of Friday?s 15-14 victory over St. Xavier in the Class 6-A quarterfinals at Papa John?s Cardinal Stadium. He did not return to the game and was taken to a local hospital for ?precautionary reasons,? Trinity athletic director Dennis Lampley said.

Quick, a top candidate for Kentucky?s Mr. Football award, has 82 catches for 1,333 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He has a state-record 277 receptions for his career.

Trinity (11-1), No. 1 in The Courier-Journal?s Litkenhous Ratings, will host No. 5 Scott County (12-1) on Friday in a Class 6-A semifinal. It?s a rematch of last year?s state final, which the Shamrocks won 62-21.
