James “not elite, not employed” Franklin

Now, yes.

After the 2024 scUM loss? Not so much.
Maybe not in the fans’ eyes, but within the program? Very much. Whatever vaguely definable concept a “team foundation” actually is, Day built one last year and Franklin apparently didn’t this year. I consider Ryan Day the best active coach in CFB because he‘s figured out how to navigate the current state of the game before any other head coach. His other decisions like coaching hires, player management/procurement, game strategies, NIL et.al. spring from that superior understanding. I believe the draw to enroll at OSU has shifted subtly from, “Come here to play at the top of the heap” to, “Come here and learn how to win championships”. Day, and last year’s starters said as much over the weeks of post-championship interviews, and I am here for it. College football might be in its most liquid magma state ever, but I can’t think of another head coach I’d rather have than Ryan Day as we watch the entire collegiate sports landscape rapidly morph and change.

Best time I’ve seen in my lifetime to be a Buckeye. O! H!

Penn State entered the 2025 season in a similar place. After a deep playoff run that should have been one game deeper, the Lions convinced several key players to return for one more shot at the title
Not to sound like I'm arguing, but why do you say it should have been one game deeper? Their game with the doomers was a close game, but I didn't finish watching it, thinking, "Penn State was hosed."

Just watched a Youtube video that showed highlights of all Franklin's losses, against ranked teams, while he was head coach at Penn State. It was pretty long, seeing as he lost 29--that's right, 29--games against teams that were ranked (including bowl games losses). That's an average of over two and a half losses against ranked teams a year.

I took it more like they did something stupid that prevented a win....not that they got screwed.
What was the stupid thing? I know Allar threw an interception in Notre Dame's field goal range to end the game. But what's to say he gets down the field in time to get a field goal for Penn State?
Or, more likely, the game goes into overtime. Who's to say that they win in overtime?
