Jameis Winston (QB Browns)

Doesnt Alabama have some depth already at QB?
They signed Phillip Sims, 5-star #2 rated QB in the 2010 and hes not even the starter yet.
They have AJ Mccarron as the starter, 4-star #17 rated QB signed 2009. He'll only be a Junior next year.
So Jameis would be 3rd back in the depth chart, I havent even seen Sims play, so I dont imagine Jameis would see much playing time next year...
Unless Sims just isnt a good qb...?

I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth, but I think BF38 was making the depth-chart argument, rather than suggesting that 'Bama might not have room for Winston. As you note, 'Bama always has room, at least temporarily.

But to the depth-chart argument, while I'm certainly no recruiting expert, I tend to think it carries a lot more weight in the minds of hopeful fans than it does in the minds of most recruits. Maybe it holds a little more sway for quarterbacks than for other positions, simply because at QB, one guy can lock up all the meaningful PT for 2-3 years. But the big-time programs always have substantial depth at most positions, and yet the big time recruits keep flocking to them. Depth-chart be damned.

I think this kid gets drafted in the first round in the baseball draft and never plays a down of college football. He signed with FSU because the ACC allows professional baseball players to play college football. The SEC doesn't.

eta - I think FSU is his backup plan in case he doesn't get drafted in the first round or anything else goes wrong.
