The Jacksonville Jaguars were not only defeated in heartbreaking fashion by the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday night, but they also lost talented wide receiver DJ Chark to a gruesome injury early on. Chark went down during the opening series while throwing a block on a run play when running back James Robinson was tackled into him and rolled up on his left leg.
Chark suffered a fractured ankle, according to a report by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Jaguars initially listed Chark as questionable to return but subsequently downgraded him to "out indefinitely."
"It's devastating, heartbreaking," Meyer said. "These guys — usually, I'm not wrong about stuff like that. I just see a good team in there. I see good guys and I see good hearts. I see guys at work. I told them, 'I'm not wrong. I'm not wrong about that stuff.' This team's going to win some games."
"Yeah, it's heartbreaking," Meyer said. "That's a heartbroken locker room, so we've got to get them back. They get a few days off and then, obviously, get ready for the Titans. They're good people in that locker room, though."
Former Clemson Tigers star quarterback and top 2021 NFL Draft pick Trevor Lawrence completed 17 of 24 passes (70.8%) for 204 yards. When a reporter pointed out that Lawrence did not turn the ball over, Meyer appeared to let out a sign of frustration, pounding the podium.
"Gosh," Meyer said. "I thought he played great. He's coming alive and I just love the way he works. Love everything about that guy."
