Jackets trade for Fed0rov

how much did CBJ give up to pick up fed0rov? I don't follow the team closely enough to know how valuable those players are. I'd really like to follow the jackets, but every time I watch they seem to get creamed.

Tyler Wright is a good quality player not a super star but definately a solid player. The other guy is a defense man that never sees the ice so it's not that big of deal. But Federov is a star and should make a huge impact early for the CBJ. They also aquired a 5th round pick out of the deak also. I just hope that Federov can put people in the seats for that $6m annual salary.

they gave up tyler wright, an original member of the team and a great person. most who follow the game think he is relatively overpaid at over 2 million bucks. he is a "grit" type player. he is a point every 3 games as a jacket type player. (a goal or a first/second assist).

beauchemin to me is our worst defender we have been dressing lately. cost us at least 3 goals in our blowout sunday. two of them were he made mistakes and then refused to skate hard down the ice. we have a few young guys like aaron johnson who have bounced around between the big club in columbus and the AHL affliated the syracuse crunch (equal to AAA in baseball).

5th round draft pick. time will tell but most likely this pick will be an AHL caliber player at best but who knows, every year their are a few solid players who were drafted late. especially with european players you can get some late steals, fedorov himself wasa 4th rounder, this gap is closing with more teams and more competiition in the nhl.

fedorov- a 35 year old who turns 36 early next month with a six million dollar contract. shoots left and has good size 6-2 210lbs. is widely regarded for his elite speed and elite stick skills. the reality is he has 2-3 quality years left and my guess would be about 5 years left in the league. what you get here is a guy who has a lot of experience winning. something this team lacks with the exception of adam foote. as noted he will compliment. as noted one of the young blue jackets zherdev who turned 21 earlier this month has had some troubles in adjusting to american life, recently the blue jackets have hired a part time mentor and have moved his girlfriend and mother to columbus.

overall i am very happy. it may not be the best move, but much better move than i thought was possible at this point. the reality is the free agent market next summer will not be real strong. this move makes a splash around the league and once again shows mcconells willingness to provide columbus with a winner. this being said the heart of this team is young, nash 21, zherdev 21, klesla 23, fritsche 20, brule 18.

i am once again energized and excited, very soon brule (this years 1st rounder) will come of the IR, nash should be back somewhere near the first week of decemeber and klesla back from a brokenhand 10 days after that.

wright is an icon in columbus for what he does on and off the ice, he plays hard and is great man in the community. similar to jody shelley the hype of fans does not match the reality of his output. wright will be a third linder (out of 4 lines) in anaheim.

beauchemin is averaging over 17 minutes of ice time a night, he has typically been on the third pairing (out of 3 pairings)

also of mention the blue jackets brought the two time reigning czech league scoring champion up from the crunch in 25 year old jarslov balastik

*also just reported that fedorov has boarded a red eye and will play tom night against the blues*

Considering the average age of a Red Wings player and gauging their success, I would say your IQ just dropped another 20 points moron
Have the Red Wings done anything the last 2-3 years? Maybe they get bounced from the playoffs b/c they are too old which is why they got rid of Sergei. </p>But losing in the 1st round of the playoffs would be a great year for a team as pathetic as Columbus, so you do have a point.

have you heard any columbus fan ever say more than "make the playoffs" i havent.

with the inury bug biting us as it has it would be a hell of a season. 3 of columbus' top 6 forwards have hardly played this year. throw in kleslas stress fracture and his broken hand from the fight, id say so.

What really excites me about this trade is the fact that Fedorov has always been responsible defensively, something that not all of our fowards (Zherdev and Nash come to mind) seem to always understand. The guy won the Selke twice as the best defensive forward. Hopefully his attitude will rub off on some of the younger forwards.

I also love the idea of having a top-line center with some playmaking ability. Malhotra has been good of late, but he's not a superstar and probably is better suited to centering a 2nd or 3rd line. Fedorov is definitely on the downswing in his career, but I would take a 36 year old Fedorov over Wright anyday.

if there is still a team in Columbus 10 years from now, I'll be surprised.

I'm not sure I would go so far as to say this, but if the team continues to suck goat ass, the fans are going to stop showing up (ala the Indians lately) and then it is going to take a lot more work to get the fans back to the games.

I was so shocked by this, but great move by DM! Being in Cleveland I have been trying to follow the Blue Jackets as much as I can. I love watching hockey but never liked the Red Wings or Penguins so I ended up being a Bruins fan, don't ask.

But now I cannot wait for Nash to get back, when is he due back again? We can at least score enough now to keep up with the 10 goals a game we give up.

Ah, stupid Blue Jacket fans...putting their hopes in an over the hill star. :slappy:

Ah, stupid Tibor.... all we Blue Jackets fans have is hope. We can't all be bandwagon jumpers - nah, take that back. Who's jumping the bandwagon on a franchise copying the Yankees' MO of spending too much on too little, and that leads the league in social security checks.

Boy, how the mighty have fallen. Federov for Tyler Wright and a waiver turd?

Tyler's a nice 3rd or 4th line mucker, that's about it.

Did federov break his leg or something? While he's on the DOWNside od his
career, he's still an offensive upgrade from TW.

Considering they gave up nothing, it was worth a shot.
