JabriLLL "Ghost" Peppers (New England Patriots)

Mostly potential combined with the way the NFL has moved. I could see him be like a Thomas davis for the Panthers. Late first round isn't a crazy position to take him. Late first, maybe slide early second.
If you haven't reached your potential three years out of HS you probably never will. Drafting on potential in the NFL almost never works.

I think it is safe to agree that he'll be a better pro than Shoelaces. Extending much beyond that is a reach in my IMHO. 51% better maybe?

He has a lot of potential, but that's all I see so far. Thus far his stats, for this year at least, are inflated based on who the have played. We'll see how he does in the back third (damn fractions again) of the season. If he holds up better than his jock strap during the game last year I'll be surprised.

I agree. But he has potential. He's an athletic freak. I think it's worth the gamble near the end of the first. Wouldn't take him earlier though since I'm not sure if his football IQ will allow him to be what his athleticism could make him.
Davis has 27 lbs on Peppers.

I think if Jabrill actually played LB and had a Darron Lee impact on the defense, it would be a simpler sale. As it is, he's still primarily an in the box safety who is very explosive and disruptive near the LOS and a very attackable liability 10 yards downfield. He also needs to improve his read/recognition skills and speed, because his ability to locate and identify the play quickly is not where it needs to be.

He's an amazing athlete that is a big weapon and a top football player. He's still learning how to be a consistent defender.

OSU will run and throw right at Peppers again this year. For him to start approaching his potential let alone the outlandish hype, he needs to give them a reason not to do so.

Now should you throw a bubble screen or let him blitz unchecked? Heck no. He's a bat out of hell on those plays.

Should you run a play action quick throw down the seam to the TE or h-back behind Peppers? Yes.

Should you run downhill option and power plays right at Peppers? Yes, and that's DB peppers let alone DB playing LB Peppers.

Should you run crossing routes, posts, and every other type of route beyond 7 yds on Peppers? Yes.

Peppers is a victim of outrageous hype. He's a really good football player, but the media and fans want him to be Charles Woodson. The difference is Woodson was considered the GOAT (or close) by many based strictly on his shutdown cover skills at CB (in a physique that could and would wreck your world over the middle or when supporting the run). He also happened to be a top return man and boost to their passing game but that was strictly an add-on. He was a legend without any consideration of those contributions.

Peppers is a tremendous weapon who is best at non defensive things. He's a top return man. He's an explosive gadget player on offense that can line up anywhere. He can blitz and blow up plays near the LOS. He is not anywhere close to Lewis when it comes to the best DB on the team. He may be a better overall football player but as pure defenders, they are very different in their consistency and execution.

Mostly potential....

The NFL always drafts on "potential". What players do in college is largely irrelevant - it's all about how their talents translate to the NFL. The "ability to translate talent" is that player's "potential".

The NFL combine is so important because it allows the teams to judge each player's potential through physical, psychological, intelligence, and substance testing. We'll see how Peppers does in Indy next year.

DeForest Buckner was drafted on potential to the point that many predicted he would go before Bosa.

Let's see who has the better NFL career.

Thomas Davis is a linebacker with wheels, not an undersized safety.

Closest comparison I can think of is Deone Buccannon but I"m not drafting a 3rd safety in the top 5 like some of these people are hyping. Hell, I probably wouldn't even draft that in the first round.

Su'a Cravens. Although I'd take Cravens as a pro. Maybe I'm biased.

and in the case of Terrell Pryor? Sorry, couldn't resist. Perfect example of how long it may take for coaches to realize where to put someone who doesn't seem to fit a preconceived notion of who he is as a player.

Jabrill ain't about to risk millions to throw a block on Penn St's fat kicker.
