IU Head Coach Search

I still say what out for Kevin Stallings who was the runner-up to Matta and O'Brien. He is familiar with the territory. I would not like to see IU get Isaiah Thomas. I don't care how bad of a coach he is he would pull some big-time recruits that nobody could screw up.

It would also be nice to see IU be able to keep Ebanks and Holloway just to add to the talent level in the big ten...

I don't understand the thinking about getting talent to the Big 10 conference. There are 10 other teams in the conference to make the conference look good. The hell with IU. Let them deal with the own problems.

In basketball it is better to play better competition all year...It helps your ratings, rankings, and helps you prepare for the tourney...The big ten didn't have a team get out of the sweet 16 this year, and I think that a lot of that had to do with the conference as a whole being down and not ready for some of the teams that they faced...

This probably could have a thread, or possibly a server, of its own. I will admit that scheduling does make a difference on how good a team becomes better during the course of the season. But that only goes so far. It all comes down to the players. Look at Memphis. Are you going to tell me C-USA was a power conference? Granted they played some tough teams out of conference but their in-conference schedule was a joke.

Indiana is a plum job-lot's of talent in-state and regionally-it takes a lot to screw it up, but Mike Davis and Kelvin Sampson went above and beyond in their idiocy. IU ought to look at Scott Drew-he is from Indiana-Valpo- and he has recruited very well at Baylor and built them into a very respectable program. He is a very public born-again Christian type, but that might play well after Sampson's shenanigans.

Didn't know where to post this, but IU's new coach is going to have to do without Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis it appears. Both would have been big returners for the Hoosiers. Seems Dakich is getting in his last words before Thursday. Will these guys be able to field a team next year??

New Mexico just locked up Steve Alford who would have been in consideration. 6 year deal. $6.85 million. Very good coach!

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New Mexico gave men's basketball coach Steve Alford a three-year contract extension that runs through the 2015-16 season.
"This is another example of what I have said all along -- that I am committed to being a Lobo," Alford said Monday.
The contract extension "shows our commitment to coach Alford and his commitment to the University of New Mexico," athletic director Paul Krebs said during a news conference.
Alford, who left Iowa and the Big Ten to take over New Mexico's struggling program, just wrapped up the first year of his original six-year contract.
He guided the Lobos, who went 15-17 last season, to a third-place finish in the Mountain West Conference at 11-5 and an overall record of 24-9. The regular-season victories tied a school record.
New Mexico went to the NIT and lost 68-66 at California in the first round.

i dunno if alford is being considered but weve learned a few things in the past few years.
1-these contracts are worth less than toilet paper. im not talking the nice stuff, im talking the single ply 7-11 version...
2-these are often used as leverage
3-coaches often leverage opportunities to get new contracts

Indiana's Final Four

Indiana wants to name a coach before the start of the Final Four, according to reports.
So what better way to break down the coaching search than to incorporate a little March Madness into what has been a crazy couple of weeks filled with rumors.
Keep in mind, these are just four of the names that have cropped up during the past few days. If this bracket had been constructed last week, Washington State's Tony Bennett not only would have been included, he would also have been the heavy favorite. Bennett told IU thanks, but no thanks Sunday.

Why would Montgomery go back into coaching when left the Stanford job to work in their athletic department. I think he would be a long shot.

I thought the last time, when they hired Sampson, there was some talk about Pitino but Indiana did not want to pay the money that Pitino wanted and I have to think that he has a pretty big buyout clause in his contract at Kentucky.

The Wright State doesn't really have the name recognition right now for the Indiana job IMO

So I have to agree with the writer that the finalist and new coach will probably be Miller or someone out of nowhere.

I don't know if he has the "power" to do it but you certainly can't let the players run the program. That does not set a very good precedent for the incoming coach and this is not the first time these two players have had a run in with Dakich. I also think that DD is still in the act during interim head coach and he has to be respected. I just don't think it would look good for the IU administration to let this go by without any disciplinary action. Whether or not they are allowed back who knows.
