It Looks Like I was Right (Hurricane Katrina Merged)

Astrodome has just been closed by the Houston Fire Marshall! Buses are still showing up and they're being told to go elsewhere ... San Antonio, DFW, somewhere. Some of these people, after all they've been through for 4 days in the Superdome, have been on buses for six hours and are now being told they'll have to drive six or eight hours more.

just heard an interview with NOLA's Mayor... he is PISSED...

he completely lost it, and started cussing, saying, "they're talking about getting some school bus drivers to help the evacuations. what the hell is that? they need to get their asses in gear, and get every goddamned Greyhound Bus line in the country down here!!! this is a disaster of epic, epic proportions!!!" good for him...

the lady on CNN is giving Brown, the Head of FEMA the business... she just said, "why do we have better intel than you?" and he doesn't really have an answer... then she asked why where there food drops two days after the tsunami, and there haven't been any food drop here, and he said that they were on the way... then, she asked why was there a Desperate SOS on Tuesday, and now it's Friday, and why has the response been so apparantly lagging...

she is REALLY giving him the business, and he's giving lame canned answers about his heart breaking, yet he has not said one thing about the plan... i don't think there IS a plan... this is getting worse and worse...

lv - guess you also caught the follow-up just recently. Another of CNN's talking heads reporting from NO Intl Airport (Louis Armstrong Airport), interviewing Gov Blanco who at times seems close to tears. Apparently a group of 1500 were told to congregate in a section of the city. Reports are that 100 died while waiting for pick-up after being directed to that specific location. She says she cannot confirm these reports.

Reporter quizzing Blanco on when she asked for Federal Troops (which is an important point, as Feds can't send in regular troops without a specific request from the Governor). She responds with a somewhat incoherent series of points
A -- She asked for "everything" the Feds could bring to bear -- which clearly isn't a specific request for troops.
B -- That she asked for 12,000 troops either Tuesday or Wednesday - and she is "not even sure what day it is, or was requested."
C -- That changing situation (levee breaks, flooding ensues) showed even 12,000 troops request was not enough.
D -- That the 12,000 troops took too long to arrive.
E -- That the 40,000 requested troops may begin to show up today and onward.
F -- New Orleans needs help now but its also other towns throughout LA that need help, many towns and cities have doubled in population overnight.

This is without doubt a serious, tragic situation. FEMA looks bad, the Governor of LA looks bad, the Mayor of NO sounds like he is losing his mind.

What is worse though is this, no matter how bad any of the officials look or sound it is nothing compared to the growing problems in what was once the Big Easy.

An emoticon representing heart-wrenching grief and frustration should go about here....

I didn't see this interview, but is this the same lady who basically had everything she said thrown in her face by Bill Clinton? I only heard about this being discussed on the radio, but the host (and a conservative at that) was giving kudos to Clinton for shutting-up a self-righteous, CNN reporter who took it upon herself to criticize the government response.

If CNN is so concerned about the people in NOLA then why don't they use their superior intel and other resources to help them instead of just sticking cameras in a starving person's face and saying "this is sad." The media can act as righteous as they want, but they are nothing but opportunistic vultures interested only in ratings.

My wife and I were talking about the same thing last night. There you have Shepherd Smith interviewing people who haven't drank in 4 days and you know he has a ton of water and food in his Fox News van but doesn't give it up.

I wonder how long until one of these news reporters is beaten severely or murdered so people can get into their news vans looking for food.

Some have been threated. A photographer was chased down the street by family memebers when he tried to get a picture of a dead woman in a wheelchair at the Super Dome. I have a fried who is a free lance videographer who was called NO and I bet he'll have some scary stories when he gets back.
