Is This The Best OSU Team Ever?

I echo the concern people have about special teams. Just in the tun game alone the past couple years we've seen the gamut of special teams miscues---missed easy field goals, an inability to pin people deep with punts and/or flip the field, Henderson muffing that kickoff and the drive starts at the 5 yard line, etc. All that combined with basically never making a big play.

That's the thing though, the path to victory against 2019 was so insanely narrow. Think about what needed to happen for Clemson to eke out that win. Fields came into that game injured, OSU had a collective off day in terms of execution, Dobbins gets injured, OSU lost the turnover battle 2-0, AND there was blatant ref fuckery that took what would've been the game winning score off the board. This is against a loaded Clemson squad mind you. It basically took an act of God to hand 2019 their only loss.

The path to victory against 2025 isn't nearly as narrow. Sayin having an off day, special teams fuckery or multiple awful turnovers would probably enough to cost the team.
Totally agreed.

The thing is even if we get past Clemson. Many forget that JK was injured so the likelihood if him playing or being 100% wasn’t great. Personally I doubt we win that matchup vs LSU for that reason.

That said, we should stomped Clemson. Had we executed in the red zone early we would’ve made them quit.

Yep, but both won by votes, not a NCG. Loved the 54 team with Cassidy, Parker, Tad Weed, and guy who went on to be a great defensive coach in the NFL, but whose name refuses to be sent from my brain to my typing finger. The 68 team should have won three Nattys.
Dick LeBeau? - nope he wasn’t until ‘56.

The ‘54 team played USC in the Rose Bowl, rather than undefeated UCLA cause of the no-repeat rule, and also #3 Oklahoma was undefeated and didn’t play in a bowl due to a similar rule.

The ‘68 team won what any type of BCS not chaired by JoePa would have created for a 2-team playoff by beating OJ’s USC team, so they’re certainly a legit undefeated champion.

I realize you were listening to that game on the radio in country, rather than watching it on TV like most of us other old-timers.

Best team ever is a hard question to ask. CFB really needs to be broken into eras. The Tressel teams would destroy any of the Woody teams and this team would own any team pre-Urban. You could have a discussion about Day or Meyer teams against each other to see who is best. Cooper might have been remembered for more than sucking against scUM if there had been a 12-team playoff back then. He put together some great talent, but couldn't beat the one team that mattered. Day went from Cooper Jr. to legend in 2 months last year, thanks to the 12-team playoff.

There are many past teams like 1969, 1973 (according to my dad at least). 1996-1998 were Coopered. 2015 was stacked. There was always something that failed OSU. There were was always what ifs or one play was mitigated by a non-slip or missed tackle.

Just for the sake of argument, only one Buckeye team can claim a perfect record and a Natty. And what heart. 2002.
This rings true to me with a big old what if. Drushaun Humphrey (RIP) was amazing and when Clarett got hurt there would be no fall off.
