Is This The Best OSU Team Ever?

Nah 2019 is still my gold standard. At this point 2019 shut out a Cincy team that won 10 games and finished in the Top 20, beat a 10 win Indiana team by 40 in their own building, destroyed one of the better Wisconsin teams in recent memory by 31, and was up 21-0 on a Top 10 Penn State team before the usual Pedster weirdness kicked in and made the game game closer than it should've been. Outside of bad luck and injuries, 2019 didn't have too many weaknesses. Fields wasn't Sayin but he'd still light your ass up if you let him and the run game was light years better. 2019's defense was arguably as dominant as 2025 against better competition overall.

If 2025 goes on a dominant run from SCUM to the NC though, I'd be willing to put them at the top.
Im with you on 2019… I remember when it all changed that year. It was 2019 when we played Rutgers. They’d fired Ash and we were supposed to beat them by literally 100. Yet the defense showed some odd cracks. Then TCUN happened, then Wisconsin in the big ten championship happened. Deep down I knew the defense wasn’t what we thought outside of 2-3 players.

Then we were exposed by Clemson after Wade was ejected.

Dominant season no doubt.

This is the best OSU team we’ve ever had. Next year’s offense will be better than this years but the balance of every facet it pretty wild this year.

This is more so my opinion because of what is out there challenging us. To be honest nothing really. We can lose no doubt. Shit we have a 50:50 odd of losing vs TCUN let alone Indiana in Indianapolis. If we don’t self destruct with penalties or turnovers we are going to repeat. I’ll add this for the superstitious (myself included)… odds are we are going to fuck it up. Odds are we are going to have an off day where we turn it over 3 times or have a huge number of penalties etc which result in a loss that end our season.

But if the trend holds? If the trend holds where we hold everyone under 14 points, where we own the game, we own the LOS, we throw for 300, we confuse the opposing team, we adjust and dominate, and we REMOVE THE BREAKS from the soulless freight train that is Ohio State then this team is going to win a title back to back against all odds.

Then yes this. This will be the best Ohio State team.

Glad to be apart of the ride baby.

In my living memory it's between 1998 and 2019 teams.

Jury is still out on this one for reasons listed but there is no doubt it could have some of the best talent we've ever seen at OSU in Smith, Downs, Sayin and Reece getting himself into those kind of conversations.
My post - see above is about these two very teams.

Don’t have an off day. Don’t turn the ball over.

Do that and then yes this will be the best.

That's the thing though, the path to victory against 2019 was so insanely narrow. Think about what needed to happen for Clemson to eke out that win. Fields came into that game injured, OSU had a collective off day in terms of execution, Dobbins gets injured, OSU lost the turnover battle 2-0, AND there was blatant ref fuckery that took what would've been the game winning score off the board. This is against a loaded Clemson squad mind you. It basically took an act of God to hand 2019 their only loss.

The path to victory against 2025 isn't nearly as narrow. Sayin having an off day, special teams fuckery or multiple awful turnovers would probably enough to cost the team.

Yeah I can’t pretend to rank them before The Game. Period. The only teams or players in my G.O.A.T. conversation win The Game. National Championship is important too but not a deal breaker. I will say they are if they whoop tsun. So far there is a different feeling about this team, to me. They are methodical. This group goes to work on opponents. Puch clock, whoop ass, punch out. I love it.

I disagree. With a defense this good they have some wiggle room. 2019 is a great comp, but I do think this defense is more loaded top to bottom.

Running game I agree with. Fields could get 100 any game he wanted and Dobins was a Junior. By his junior year Jackson will be as good as Dobins, but not this year.

I made this thread to try to appreciate what we are watching here. The seasons seem to be flying by faster and faster for me. We already played 8 games!! I still don't know how to comprehend that our qb has a 80+ completion % through 8 games. Its not possible. Throwaways should take you that low. Just tring to appreciate it. This is a special year and these kids are still hungry.

FUCK MICHIGAN

Bugs me that OSU's best teams seem to come up short more often than not.

Every natty in my lifetime faced some ridiculous amount of adversity. No one expected 02, 14, or 24 (at least after the Michigan game), the irony.

Cause honestly, gun to my head, id probably pick 2019 and 1998 over any of those teams in a vacuum.

and I always forget to add the 2015 team to the conversation

Coaching let that team down, not talent

I never thought of the now-fired replay dude in Birmingham as a deity, he was more like the devil to me.

Yup. It’s why if 2025 wins it all I’d probably pick them. They’d be the first juggernaut OSU squad to win it all in years.

I've never seen a defense quite like this... we have the top two NFL linebackers, the top NFL defensive back, the two top NFL wide receivers, and the most accurate passer in the history of the game. Time will tell. Ryan Day has learned to win here and has a very nice staff, too. Hard to argue with '98 and teams like '14/'15, '19, '02 (say what you want but look at the NFL talent), '05-'07 - it's been a golden age for quite a while - but when you're looking back to 1973 to compare this defense and you look at how the game was played then vs today it's hard to think we've had a better defense combined with this much talent at QB and WR. O-line has been solid in pass game. Let's keep it going: @ Michigan, then @ Indy for IU for the B1G and the Heisman. If we run the gauntlet and run through 4 or 5 top 15 teams to end this season, it's going to be hard to argue for any other team being better so far.
