Is it wrong to like a different college for another sport...

I have actually read the entire thread, because I'm a serious fan, so I had to. :wink2:

Personally, I welcome everyone who says they want to support any tOSU athletic team. Whether somebody went to tOSU or they didn't, but they want to root for the Buckeyes, I consider them a fellow fan. If somebody didn't grow up in Ohio, or spend 'x' number of years in the state, but they want cheer for tOSU, I think it's preferable to compliment them on their discerning choice rather than try to question their level of loyalty.

We've got a lot of great Buckeye fans on this site. I don't believe it should matter whether they live in a campus dorm, a Columbus suburb, or another continent; what matters is that each person is here because of passion for the best damn football team in the land.

And I think that this week may be the time that we least want to even have this discussion. This is scUM week. All Buckeye fans should be united in despising everything involved with TSUN.

Agree totally with all that you said it just takes some people longer to see the light and come to the buckeyes :)

I'm a huge Bucks football fan, and a huge Xavier fan. I like tOSU's B-ball team,but I like to root for the smaller team in basketball, and Xavier is 10 minutes from me. I don't mind people who like smaller schools in their area. The small schools need all the love they can get. (now that tOSU b-ball has gotten a great coach from XU they should be a force to be reckoned with now)

Bill makes an important point about out of staters and them being "real" fans. If you live in Montana and have since birth and yet you go out of your way to root for Ohio State, perhaps the argument can be made you're MORE loyal to OSU. There are a lot of great things about Ohio State football that you only get by being here in C-Bus... hell, there's so much stuff you miss a lot of it - as I did with the Mirror Lake Jump, apparenlty - but even without all those things to enhance the bond you feel about OSU an out of stater STILL roots for OSU as his or her number 1 team? That, to me, speaks volumes about the "out of stater" and their loyalty... they "know" without "knowing"

Great point, well said. using that logic, in a way, the same could be said about someone that did not attend tOSU

I root for OSU in football, and UNC in basketball.

I was born in Wilimington(Jordans hometown) and grew up just a few miles from Chapel Hill, where the Tarheels play. One thing that pisses me off is that when they were average when Roy Williams first took over I still rooted for them, now they win a championship and all the bitches flock and all of the sudden they all love UNC.

I am always Buckeyes first in hoops, but, given the fact that OSU has been a basketball power for about 5 years total in my life, I always have found my interest drifting towards other programs. I will always root for the Buckeyes in hoops, but, honestly, I grew up listening to Xavier on 700 WLW back when Byron Larkin played for them, and I have always liked UK and Arizona, and was a big Georgetown fan back when I was in HS and liked to get a rise out of people by telling them I liked the Hoyas. I hate Duke and dislike the rest of the ACC in hoops, I actually root for all Big 10 teams in hoops (except for scUM) when they are not playing the Bucks. In football, I hate the rest of the Big 10 except for NW. Ohio State is a football school-that is where the true passion lies.

Interesting discussion. Grew up in Ohio and a Buckeye fan. Lived all around the country but always rooted for the Bucks. Graduated from the University of Hawaii, hope that UH wins, but have nowhere near the passion as I do for OSU football. Being able to watch games on cable almost weekly, along with the internet, have allowed me to reconnect with OSU. Maybe that's why people have more than one favorite team. The ability to watch everyone play more often causes a greater like or dislike for that team.

When I was growing up my dad was a basketball coach. We would watch Kentucky games because they have always been very sound in fundamentals, a very good defensive team, and are always one of the best "team" programs. I was heartbroken when Laettner beat Kentucky in 1992 ecstatic when Kentucky won the NC back in 1998. The Wildcats are one of my favorite basketball teams. That said...

I was a Buckeye before I was born. I will die a Buckeye no matter where I die. I will root for the Buckeyes to beat anyone in any sport... the only exception to that is track & field where I have loyalties to no school, even my alma mater where I ran. If OSU would play Kentucky in the NCAA Tourney I would root for OSU to absolutely crush Kentucky and send them back to Lexington crying.
