Is it wrong to like a different college for another sport...

okay, oprah.

who here is talking about not having the right to like or not like a team? liking a team is not about one's rights really. if someone asks why you like strawberry ice cream, would your response be, "well, it's my right to like strawberry ice cream"?

being happy with the team you decide to a be a fan for is the mantra of the bandwagoner. now, i'm not saying that anyone here has jumped on a team's bandwagon, but i am definitely saying that there are different levels of fans.

There are definitely different levels, I mean BuckeyeBill is an old fart  and long-time fam of tOSU. Younger people like myself, JWins, jlb, etc... I guess you could say aren't as long-term as him, but I think most posters on this board are hardcore. I do get annoyed, however, with new fans who consider themselves to be long-timers

heck yeah i do when osu loses in the basketball tournament. i'm a huge fan of the team. no, i don't when the rugby team loses. i don't follow the rugby team. but, and here's the crucial point here, i don't root for any other school's rugby team, either.

the rest of you post i agree with, and i've posted nothing to the contrary.

I agree, entirely. I believe that this is how every "die hard" or "true fan" should be. It's just my opinion, but I think that this is how every fan should act.

no, switching teams when you aren't happy with them is the mantra of a bandwagoner.
actually, "switching teams when you aren't happy with them" is the credo.

if someone is loyal to OSU in football and loyal to another team in basketball, I may not like it, but that doesn't make them a traitor or bandwagoner.
i agree, and, again, i've not posted anything that is contrary. i, just as you, don't like it either and would question to myself just how true an ohio state fan the person is. it just seems for some here that there is a fine line between being an ohio state fan and being an ohio state football fan. as was asked of another poster, "if your basketball team is kentucky and your football team is osu, who would you root for if kentucky's bball team faced osu's bball team?" i definitely see no issue with a uk bball/osu fball fan wanting uk to win (obviously), but i do have an issue with someone who is an overall ohio state fan wanting uk to win. it's just not compatible.

On a brighter note, there will be fewer "non OSU bball fans" in the future thanks to this man:

not suggesting all of you are fairweather fans. but I suspect some would have stuck with OSU if we had not wallowed in mediocrity for a while.

Haha yeah, I love Thad, but won't it irritate the hell out of you when a lot of people jump on the OSU basketball bandwagon?

I guess I can thump my chest that I struggled thru radio broadcasts of games last year, like the LSU game :smash:...

but honestly I'll be too busy doing many awkward celebration dances with regularity thanks to our newfound success.

I think bandwagoners bother me more in football, since OSU has been worth following even without the NC. While I love OSU bball, I would have a hard time convincing anyone it was worth following closely in recent years. So for that reason, I'm ok with people warming up to bball.

I think there will be a lot of OSU fans that did not really have a bball team before following Matta. Especially since we are a football school, those types of "bandwagoners" are allowed IMO.

an upcoming osu football season definitely gets me excited, but i've rarely felt the giddiness for osu football as i have for osu's current and upcoming basketball seasons. i've trudged throught the down seasons, too. the name doug etzler actually means something to me. how many oden fans will have a clue who etzler was?

Let me tell you personally that it was not easy to rough out the Ayers years and it was becoming apparant Obie was not getting the job done as of late. Not an easy time being a Buckeye basketball fan...now however...

this comment makes me mad. what exactly was randy's problem? he had the mr. bball ohio greg simpson, indiana charles macon, and shouldve been kentucky derek anderson on THE SAME TEAM. he dismissed the players when they became problems. I just dont follow the logic.

A "die hard" OHIO STATE fan is just that. It's not a matter of switching sports to accomadate your needs to become a fan of a team. A lot of so called "die hard" fans usually sport duke or carolina this time of the year..It's quite funny though...My first comment is usually " so i suppose if ohio state football went under (which its obviously not) you'd become a miami hurricane fan"...That tends to upset the seasonal die hard fans...

Well first off he couldn't control the players off the court. I don't even remember the exact events, but simpson, macon, and damien bosley all had attitude problems and got into trouble. How many of Matta or Obie'sboys you see doing that stuff? Anderson simply transferred because he saw a better opportunity at Kentucky because our team was falling apart. Trust me bro as someone who went to almost every game, it was rough. I still remember losing to scUM after being up 5 pts with under 30 secs left...I was just sick

right, but had he not got the recruits, he would have been fired for being an ineffective recruiter. so, he brings in top talent, that had no prior history of being jackasses, and its his fault they fuck up? he did what a good coach should, dismiss them when they breach the rules. and I am 26 and attended many bball games during the ayers era, so I also remember.

Though I do think he is somewhat at fault for their behavior, that is irrevalent and nowhere in my previous posts did I blame him...I just said it was rough during the Ayers years. No need to put words into my mouth

So because (10 years ago as a little seventh grader) I loved watching Vince Carter play and started to follow his team, does that make me a traitor or less of a Buckeye fan? I don't buy that for a second.
