As for the topic at hand, I bought a 4gb mini when it came out but bought the new 80gb video so I could fit all my songs and I loved the new video feature. It has been great, but make sure to buy a case for it as it scratches easily.

True

I got the 30 GB Video Ipod for Christmas, and its been good. I don't have a case for it yet, just been using the included pouch thing that came with it. Sometime this week I got a small scratch on the back of it. Not a big deal.

I looked for cases at Best Buy, since thats where it was bought at and it came with a $20 gift card. I don't know if it was just because of the holidays, or what, but they really didn't have a good selection of cases. I'm thinking of going to the Ipod store, pretty sure they have a much larger selection on cases.

Handbrake is a really simple program to use. They have a "lite" version that converts dvd's to ipod or psp formats. It's free but I think it's only out for Mac OS X. I think there's a windows version in the works though...

I use Handbrake to rip dvd's to divx so I can watch them on my laptop without needing the disc. Its works great!

Ahh.. Thanks for the help.. Unfortunately I have Windows :(

I ended up just getting another iPod... the black 30g video.

funny thing about the Zune... I had decided I would buy the Zune because I wanted to try something something different. I really didn't see much difference between the two for what I was looking for. I liked the texture and the bigger screen of the Zune so I decided to download Zune Market place before I went to buy it so I could see what it was all about. Well... Microsoft being the great company they are made the software so it wasn't compatable with any computer running XP with Media Center 2002. You need XP with Media Center 2005... other wise you can't use the software  you gotta love it! Another bad this about the Zune... with the market place you can pay $15/mo for unlimited downloads but as soon as you cancel your subscription you lose all the music you downloaded.

so I just bought another iPod...

Well I just upgraded today to a white 80GB iPod (from my old 4G 20GB HP iPod) I haven't got to try out the video conversion software that somebody linked yet, but if it works like it says it does, thanks, and I'll try to remember to rep you later.

Meanwhile, I'm searching for the right case for my new iPod. I had a leather case for my old one, and for the most part, it was perfect. The one problem I had (and it's significant) was that it had a clear plastic part over the screen. When I bought it, I thought that would help protect the screen, but I found out that that part of the case actually damaged the screen. I definitely don't want anything like that to happen, but I also want it to be protected when I'm using it. I've already bought some of those clear plastic films for it, and I've heard those help a lot. I bought I couple cased from a some stores, but after trying them on, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna return them. Something about them is just not right. I did manage to find a place online that sells the Apple brand leather case for cheap ($39 where I bought it, reg. $99 from Apple). I've heard great things about it, so I thought I'd give it a try for that price.

Does anybody else have any case recommendations?

I bought one of these skins and put it on my 30G and love it....

you have to be careful when puting it on because you have to use a little bit of soapy water to get it to apply.

That option is interesting... After the skin is applied and has set, does the skin have a rubbery or tacky feel, is it smooth like shrinkwrap, or what? Does it show fingerprints like it would if the skin weren't there? Is it easy to wipe it down to clean it from time to time? Looking at the website, it seems almost too good to be true - especially at under $10.

I already ordered the Apple Leather Case as I said in my previous post, but if this would work in conjunction with that, that would be sweet.

once it is set it is smooth and you can't really tell it's there. It's a not as thin as paper but a little thicker. It does show finger prints but wipes down easy... I don't notice a difference from before I put it on when I watch videos on it. I figured for that cheap I would give it a try and like it so far. I use it along with a case. You have to be careful when putting it on. You have to dip in water with a little bit of soap and then apply it to the iPod... I guess stupid people have tried to apply it dripping wet and screwed up their iPods. I had to peel back a corner to set it and it was too dry so when I put it back on it left a little crease but you can only see it if you really look. There is another skin out there for $30 that has a lifetime replacement but I can't think of the name right now. They say that if you take it off it won't leave anything on the ipod.
