Do those of you that own Ipods (or other MP3 players) also own mobile phones? Do you carry them both at the same time?

I use a SmartPhone with an SD card that I sync my music to. I can even stream it over the air with my data plan from a PC/Server at home so I don't have to sync at all. I can watch live tv and recorded content as well from a Media Center at my house wherever I have cell phone coverage or sync it when I don't have coverage. It just seems inconvenient to carry two devices that should be doing more than they are?

We don't normally cover stuff like this, but patent documents from none other than Apple are just too cool not to post. If you haven't heard the rumors, Apple is considering dumping the physical scroll wheel for a virtual wheel right on the screen. So your iPod would now have one big screen on the entire front (3.5") and when you twirled your finger on the surface, a virtual wheel appears.

I use my Shuffle for working out. There's no way I'm going to carry my phone around the gym.

My issue about cell phones - and other multipurpose devices... devices that do everything are like Swiss Army Knives. They're cool, because they have everything you need in one small package. The problem is that those kind of devices usually excel only in one of those multiple functions at best. I mean - sure, I could use my cell phone as an mp3 player and camera and camcorder... But each of those functions are inferior compared to the devices I have that are built specifically for those purposes. For comparison's sake, a Swiss Army Knife may have a pair of scissors and all kinds of blades built in - but you're not gonna use it instead of a real pair of scissors or a steak knife in the appropriate situation.

By the way - if you're thinking about an mp3 player, spring for the iPod. They are popular for a good reason.

Besides not being able to shuffle individual playlists, the only other negative I see with iPods is that there is no radio in the device.

At my gym, the only way to listen to the televisions is to tune a radio to something like 90.1, 92.1 etc...

Any idea if that is coming down the pike any day soon?

Get a Stiletto and lock it in on Channel 109.
