iPhone/iPad App Recommendations & Reviews

PAC-12 Now, the PAC-12 Network's version of BTN2GO is now available for iPad. You need a subscription to one of their partner service providers to use, it (currently Time Warner, Cox or Bright House cable networks). I have Time Warner, and even though I'm in Ohio and PAC-12 Network is not available to me in my digital cable lineup, I'm still able to log in and watch on my iPad. Pretty cool. I have the Arizona State game on right now.

I'm a little jealous - it's a slicker app than what the BTN has right now. This app is iPad only - the description says there is an iPhone version forthcoming.

Some of these are sprinkled throughout this thread, but after my last couple posts I thought I'd aggregate all of the apps that are out there for watching live college football on your iOS device. All of these apps are free, but many of them will require a subscription of some sort.

WatchESPN - Obvious

BTN2GO - Obvious

PAC-12 Now - Just getting started, but looks promising.

NBC Sports Live Extra - Will carry Notre Lame football, which will be nice since I want to keep track of their shittiness but don't want to have to relegate a better game to my iPad because ND is only available on my big screen. Remains to be seen whether they will have any of the other college football games that were traditionally on Versus. Many of those were PAC games that will now be on their own network or FOX I guess.

CBS Sports - This is mainly a scoreboard app, and a shitty one at that. It does however stream the occasional SEC game, though it doesn't make it easy to access. You pretty much have to know which game is going to be broadcast on CBS that week and pull it up thru the scoreboard section of the app. It's better than nothing, I suppose.

ACC Sports - The good: does not require a cable or satellite subscription. The bad: does charge its own subscription directly thru the app. The ugly: the available games suck - it's all the worst stuff they have to offer, like Virginia vs. Duke. I'm not hardcore enough to subscribe to this, but it's out there if you want it. I keep the app around mainly so I'll know when it's updated to something more useful.

BYUTV - BYU games - the ones that aren't good enough to sell to ESPN at least.

What's missing: The most notable provider that doesn't have an app or available streams is FOX. Hopefully that changes soon as they continue to expand their college football offerings. Also the CBS Sports app does not have an option for games on CBSSN.

ESPN just updated their ScoreCenter app. It's terrible.

I assume you're referring to the iPad version? What do you dislike about it?

I actually love the update. It looks sharp, it's much easier (for me) to switch between scoreboards thru the menu.

Also (and this is very important to me) it seems to support push notifications for USMNT soccer matches. I haven't seen any other app that does this. I'm actually hoping that the update the Scorecenter iPhone app (or at least the ESPN FC app) with this.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City coming to iOS this fall

Great ready, Grand Theft Auto fans, "Vice City" is coming to iOS this fall. Rockstar Games will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City by releasing it for "select iOS devices" sometime this fall. Rockstar didn't mention exactly which devices will get the game, or if it'll be universal. But fans can expect "several enhancements unique to iOS."

Lots of good iPad games went on sale today - presumably to coincide with the iPad mini launch. I have all of these and would recommend any of them... While they are chiefly meant for the iPad, some of the games are universal and will work on an iPhone. Don't know how long these will last.
Infinity Blade [strike]$5.99[/strike] $0.99

Infinity Blade II [strike]$6.99[/strike] $2.99

Little Things [strike]$2.99[/strike] FREE

Little Things Forever [strike]$2.99[/strike] $0.99

Tiny Wings HD [strike]$2.99[/strike] $0.99

TongueTango.

The developer of this app is a personal friend of mine and fellow Buckeye (hence the color scheme). He has been developing this app for a year and a half and I've been able to see this evolve over that time.

It's a social networking App that allows you to post your voice to Twitter and Facebook; or send a PTT style message to other Tt users. It's a really slick UI that has really come along and while it's still in its relative infant stage, we're excited to see how this takes off.

I don't solicit BP ever and feel half guilty for posting in the appropriate thread, bu I appreciate you downloading the app and providing feedback. Thanks.

Looking for an iPhone app that will both:

  1. Allow you to manually set the shutter speed (exposure time, not intervals between shots).
  2. Take time lapse photography (sequential series of photos to make a movie)

Night Modes allows to set the shutter speed up to 1 second, but while there are several good apps that for time lapse photography they don't have an option to manually set the exposure time.

My goal is to be able to take time lapse clips of night skies, but I don't think the iPhone default lowest exposure setting will let in enough light, thus essentially making the current time lapse apps useless. If 1 second exposure would suffice, I guess I could Night Modes to manually take shots every 30 seconds or so for a couple hours and then afterward use some other app to combine them into a time lapse movie (but that would suck).

Have you tried ProCamera?

Oh, and there's also this for Vice City:

? iCloud save game support
? Custom iTunes Playlist*
*To listen to your custom playlist, simply create a playlist titled ?VICECITY?, launch the game, and select the radio station ?Tape Deck?

:banger:

iCloud support was the biggest thing missing from GTAIII for iOS. I love being able to pick up where I left off in games when I go from one device to another.

Google Maps have returned to iOS:

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/google-maps/id585027354?mt=8

Haven't had a chance to put it to use yet, but just playing around with it so far it looks pretty damn slick.

Search
* Find addresses, places and businesses around the world with Google local search.
* Discover places to eat, drink, shop and play, with ratings and local reviews.
* Sign in to sync your searches, directions, and favorite places between your computer and your phone.
Directions
* Get voice guided, turn-by-turn driving directions.
* Find your way by train, bus, subway or walking directions.
* Access live traffic information in cities across the world.
Street View and imagery
* View 360-degree panoramas of places around the globe with Street View.
* See inside more than 100,000 businesses worldwide.
* View high resolution satellite imagery of locations around the world.
Simple and easy to use
* An entirely new Google Maps experience on your iPhone.
* Newly designed and streamlined interface for even easier navigation of your world.
* Use gestures to explore the map and browse results.

I still like the new Apple Maps, but I think I'll really like this too. Each has something that the other is missing. A little competition on this front will only be a good thing for users I think.
