iPhone 4S (was iPhone 5)

My point is speed is little use when plans are capped. I still have unlimited data, but that is only thanks to being grandfathered in. Neither Verizon or ATT has unlimited data on their new plans. Without unlimited data, it simply means 4G speed is virtually worthless for most users. Only the very rich would see a benefit. What is Verizon max, 10 GB? That is not even 1 high resolution movie while being tethered. For a phone, you don't even need 4G speeds to hit it's resolution max to stream a movie anyway. So we are talking tethering (which is even more money) plus 10GB plan ($80 a month) plus all the overages. What the heck are you going that requires 4G speed from a tether and under 10 GB a month?

Think about it. Your average per day is 333 MB. That is not that much data (seriously, that is about 30-45 minutes of compressed standard def video). Getting it 4 times faster doesn't make much of a difference for most people. If you really care about saving 1-2 minutes on a that one big file you download occasionally, but use your phone for nothing else, 4G is great. Yet most people are not using their phone that way, especially the iPhone. Streaming media is the key for high speeds on an iPhone, but with data caps that is killed.

4G speed with capped data is a very limited market, and certainly not the iPhone market.

Well this is a downer... so I think I still have unlimited data, but I can't ever get it again? I was hoping to switch from ATT to Verizon at some point

Sprint Nextel Corp., the country's third-largest cellphone company, will start selling the iPhone in mid-October, The Wall Street Journal said Tuesday.
Citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, the newspaper said the wireless company will get to sell both the new iPhone 5 and the current model, the iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 will launch at the same time that AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless get it, the newspaper said.
Apple normally launches a new iPhone model in June or July, but this year's launch has been delayed for unknown reasons. Apple watchers had expected the new phone to arrive in September, but speculation has recently shifted toward October.

Surprised this thread isn't busy.

iOS 5 on Oct 12.

iPhone 4S has HSDPA. Not 4G, but still significantly faster.
Dual smart antennas for signal switching.
A5 chip for graphics 7x faster than the iPhone 4.
1080p HD resolution.
8MP camera with more intelligent sensors, a "five element lens," and includes a f/2.4 aperature. Can shoot pictures and movies in low light and has a click-to-write speed of 1.1 seconds.

EDIT: Also debuting "Siri," an intelligent voice control system. Demo on stage shows presenter asking phone "What's the weather like today?" and Siri speaking back, "Here's today's weather." Siri is apparently smart enough to directly answer weather related sub-questions like, "What's the hourly forecast?" and "Will I need a raincoat today?"

HSDPA 14.4, thats kinda weak, especially for apple, its quite old, 14.4 specs were released 2005. However given no LTE and no HSPA+ 21 or 42 on AT&T network I see why.

Can anyone just tell me if this is worth getting... I dont know what the specs mean...

How old is your phone... and are you eligible for an upgrade... from what i've seen I don't see this as a huge leap forward (hints the 4S as apposed to 5 naming). its really up to you its got nice specs... if your an apple person then you'll love it...

Here you go:

CUPERTINO, CA?During a highly anticipated media event held today at the Apple corporation?s world headquarters, CEO Tim Cook announced the new iPhone 4S is good and people should buy it. ?It?s a good phone,? said Cook, walking out onto a stage and gesturing at a picture of the device projected on a large screen behind him. "It's got e-mail, the Internet, and you can get apps on it. Everybody should get one. It's good."

You're welcome.

There's going to be a 64GB model of the iPhone 4S. That's the real game changer for me. I'll be able to put all of my music and apps on the same phone, which I can't come close to doing on my 32GB 3GS.

The camrea is the other big deal for me. Even the 3GS had a pretty decent camera, but since I'm now using my phone as my exclusive point-and-shoot, I'll be looking forward to the spec and quality bump.

The integrated voice control is interesting. Before I went to the iPhone I carried Samsungs, and the one thing they did better than everybody else was voice command integration. No iPhone has ever come close in that respect with what I was able to do with my VGA 1000. My last Samsung, the Instinct, even had it integrated with the native GPS navigation thru Microsoft Live Search. It,s the one thing I have missed about my pre-iOS devices, and I hope that my inext Phone is taking a leap forward in that regard.

I've always been impressed with the image quality of the iPhone 4 camera, and f 2.4 aperature is very impressive for a phone. too bad Android hardware is too fragmented for an arms race in lenses. well, I guess they have 3D. :so:

Resident camera guru; what is f/2.4? I have no clue what that camera garbage is.

As for the 4S, I was hoping for a 4" screen and overall was slightly underwhelmed after 3 months of iPhone 5 mania. The A5 is nice, but the wife's iPhone 4 never bogs down and is lightning quick, not sure the graphics acceleration means much to me.

I'm with Dryden, I'm stoked for iOS5 and Siri can be a game changer. The GPS-reminder demo was awesome. The voice commands is definitely and edge to Android in current form (as well as native turn by turn GPS), but Siri may have just bypassed the google voice search by a few years.

Yeah I definitely agree with you on that, although if your read the MyTouch 4G Slide camera reviews they say its on par with the Iphone 4. I wish android phones would put more into the cameras but it took apple over a year to come out with a phone that has the same specs as android devices released in Jan. So its a trade off i guess.
