DaddyBigBucks;954899; said:[devil's advocate]Illinois' defense is nothing to write home about. They could give up 20 points to air. So they just might give up 15-17 points to Iowa.
Iowa's defense has been not-so-great, but not nearly as bad as their offense. And Iowa's defense seems to be built like a typical Iowa defense; stout against the run, not so much against the pass. On the surface, this seems to be a less than horrific match-up vs. Illinois, who is near the bottom of the league in passing efficiency. They might hold the Illini to 21 points or so.[/devil's advocate]
If I put v$ on this game though, it will probably be on Illinois. The Hawkeyes don't appear to have the speed to deal with the Illini option game.

In a nutshell you have neatly summarized the core complaint Gator fans had with Zook from his tenure in Gainesville. (Or maybe better stated the complaint with the most understandable proof). Good recruiter, poor game day manager.BB73;959131; said:I think you mean Gordon Gecko. (Wall Street, not Watergate).
I'm surprised that BW141 is the only one that mentioned Zook accepting a penalty that cost him the game. Leading 6-3, he gave Iowa a 3rd and 7 on the 20, instead of a 4th and a full 2 yards (after a no gain on 3rd and 2). Obviously Iowa would have kicked a FG on 4th and 2. Obviously if you stop them on 3rd and 7 they still have a very makeable 37- or 38-yard FG. Only an idiot head coach accepts that penalty.
And then the TE's alignment on the opposite side of the field brings wipes out back an 83-yard TD that could have won the game.
