Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

Indians GM sticking with Wedge

Views 574 Comments 4

General Manager Mark Shapiro admits things are bad with the Indians, but not bad enough to fire manager Eric Wedge. "What I can tell you is that I believe no one cares more about these players or this organization than Eric Wedge," Shapiro said before Tuesday night's game against the Chicago White Sox. "I feel strongly that he's making every effort to move this in a positive direction." What if the Indians are still in last place in the American League Central in June or July? "I'm not thinking about June and July," Shapiro said. "I don't have the luxury. We've got to think about May and tonight and tomorrow night. "What makes players, coaches and managers successful is taking it one day at a time. Right now, I feel the answers are here with Eric, this coaching staff and these players." Wedge took responsibility for the Tribe's poor start Monday. Said Shapiro: "Responsibility is shared. Accountability rests with me."

once again Valbuena is not in the lineup.

why did they send down Barfield instead of Valbuena? Barfield's future is as a bench guy whereas Valbuena is a future everyday 2nd baseman. Valbuena could use the consistent playing time in Columbus to continue developing.

LaPorta is in the lineup today but I see the same situation with him. I'd rather have him in AAA playing everyday and Crowe on the bench in Cleveland. I just don't like the idea of bringing up top prospects only to let them ride the bench. Use guys who project as bench guys for that role and let the future regulars continue developing with regular playing time.

Holy shit! The pigeon coop holds a lead with two shutout innings. :yow2:

Cliff has been pitching pretty well since the opening day disaster. Has the ERA down to 3.00 (and a 2-5 record to show for it).

Always nice to win a series against the White Sox...I fucking cannot stand Ozzie Guillen.

Cliff wasn't taking any chances today. After giving up 6 earned runs (1 should have been unearned) in his previous 4 starts and coming away with three losses he knew the only sure way to avoid a loss was to not give up any.

Think this was the 2nd series the Tribe has won this year. Now lets see if they can win two in a row for the second time this year.
