Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

Yes or No, Borowski sucked this year? Yes or No, many Cleveland fans thought the position should have been addressed last season, let alone the off-season??

Who was right??

Borowski and his 5+ ERA got rocked this year like he did last year. Unfortunately he didn't get lucky like he did last year.

borowski's numbers have been about the same his whole career. so, using your brilliant logic, he's been lucky his entire career.

those same indians fans calling for borowski to be replaced are the same brain surgeons that ragged on casey blake, and called fausto carmona a bust after '06. hopefully you won't be put on the 15 day DL for patting yourself on the back for your stunning revelations about borowski.

and, it's quite obvious that the plan was to use borowski for this year while they evaluated sipp and a few others on the farm, with kobayashi as the back-up plan. but, that fact, along with clear statistical evidence, is also lost on you.

Borowski sucked this year mainly because of an early season injury... ask cliff lee how hard an early season injury is to come back from

That early season injury seemed like a mental break to me. Give him 15 days to recoup after getting rocked. Similar to what the Cards did for Isringhousen. Borowski said the time off would give him the ability to hit the high 80's with his fastball...it never happened.

And TSteele, it isn't about patting myself on the back...it's replying to your constant assertions that management can not be wrong in regards to Borowski. His ERA and outings were shaky all of last year, it isn't shocking he sucked this year.

I would like to stop by and take credit for the current four-game winning streak. I was in attendance Thursday night and they have not lost since.

I am guaranteeing right now the Indians will not lose again before the upcoming weekend! Paint the endzones!!!

The credit is yours for the asking.:biggrin2:

Sowers a very strong 4:sad: inning performance. How much longer does he last with the Indians and what's up with JP. I take it all back. If he is on the trade block, I want him taken off until his next prolonged slump:lol:

no, what is wrong is your assertion that cleveland screwed the pooch majorly by not signing a closer in the offseason. and, you have yet to offer any tangible proof as to why they should have other than hindsight. borowski's numbers in save situations last year mirrored his career averages. there was no reason to think last year was an outlier, or that he was unreasonably "lucky".

but, outside of "style points" you have yet to show anything to the contrary.

Well, I am also in disagreement with you. After Joe's performance last year, I think management should have went out and signed a closer. It was rather obvious that Joe B gave up too many hits even when he was credited with a "save". In many of those instances I really don't care then he got credit for the "save", he was just extremely lucky and any good baseball man should have acknowledged that and should have gone out and found somebody for this season.

Sometimes statistics are overblown.

Well, it's always fun to sweep a competitive team...looks like we'll be playing the role of spoiler this year, so that could bring some enjoyment in this horse abortion of a season.

WTF kind of line was that from Sowers today? 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 BB, 8 K. He deserves some credit for only giving up 2 runs while allowing 10 baserunners, but where in the blue hell did the 7 walks come from? And moreso, the 8 K's? Seriously, I don't know how much longer they plan on keeping him in the rotation. I think the average AAA scrub could outperform him most nights. It looks like half the Rays lineup was doped up on lithium and the other half was on meth.

Peralta continues to swing a hot stick, but as streaky as he is, I half expect a long slump after the break. Hopefully his recent hot streak has caught some teams interest on the trade market.

Marte is playing considerably better in a starting role. Whether that lasts or not is worth watching. I don't understand why they didn't insert him in the lineup 6 weeks ago when it was clear the season was in the shitter.

I really wish we could find or develop somebody to replace Grady at the top of the lineup. He's looking like he could be a helluva #3 hitter. I don't care if he says he's comfortable in the leadoff spot...he's outgrown it.

:slappy: yea no kidding

only scoring 2 runs in a game when Jeremy Sowers Tom Mastny and Ed Mujica pitch, shame

Sowers line was crazy and I am seriously in shock that he did not give up 4-5 more runs

CLEVELAND MANAGER ERIC WEDGE WAS EJECTED BY HOME PLATE UMPIRE KERWIN DANLEY IN THE TOP OF THE SECOND INNING FOR ARGUING A BALK CALL.

maybe that helped?

Great article on Matt LaPorta. I try not to get too excited about prospects, but it's hard not to about him. Seems like a great kid who is taking all the pressure in stride...

LaPorta's bat the stuff of legends

"It doesn't really add any pressure because my job is still to go out and perform on the baseball field and help my team," said LaPorta about being dealt for a Cy Young winner. "Whether it's the Indians or the Brewers, it doesn't matter."
LaPorta has just completed a roller-coaster week that catapulted him to a near-household name. His fellow teammate with Double A Akron and in the Futures Game, Wes Hodges, told him the other day, "You're the same dude you were a week ago. Nothing's changed except that you got traded, and now everybody knows who you are."
Standing in the home dugout before the Futures Game on Sunday, LaPorta seemed awestruck playing in the Bronx -- "I'm shaking because I'm here in Yankee Stadium," he said -- but all other signs pointed to him already having reached the big time. There was the interview with Erin Andrews to open ESPN2's broadcast, the microphone MLB.com asked him to wear during pregame warmups and the cage-side chat with Peter Gammons. (Then again, the PA announcer introduced him as "Mateo LaPorta," much to his confusion.) In the game itself, LaPorta went 1-for-3 with a groundball single and drew a ninth-inning walk to bring the tying run to the plate in the U.S. Team's 3-0 loss to the World Team.

Figured I'd mention CC since there is still a discussion about ex-Indian Joe Borowski. :tongue2:

I have no problem talking about CC when he does something especially this recent. It isn't like he left on bad terms. I think he is better off in the NL.
IIRC it seemed like yesterday was former Indian day on SC. I think there were 3-4 guys that did something SC worthy.

Jody Gerut, Ryan Ludwick...

Great series for the Tribe, good to see them still competing. Hopefully things stay positive in the 2nd half and the club carries it into the next season.

Blake and Peralta's trade value have to be at their highest points heading into the All-Star break. It will be interesting to see how long they last.
