Indians Tidbits (2007 Season)

Man, who would have thought that the only downer for the Tribe tonight would have been the SP with C.C. Not me. I give C.C. a ton of credit there in the top of the 5th getting out of the bases loaded jam, he reached down and showed that even though he was having an off night, he's still the guy that won 19 games and is a Cy Young candidate. Bravo C.C., the offense owes you a few and they just gave you some payback big time tonight.

K-Love, Garko, Vic, Asdrubal, just huge performances tonight. Damn I am glad that Kenny is here. Having his postseason experience where pretty much everyone else on the team has none is huge. He came out there and showed the guys that they just had to play their game and do what they have done all year and things would go their way. For Perez to come in and just blow the Yanks away was just incredible as well. If this doesn't show the Yanks that the regular season didn't mean shit, nothing will.

I know this is just game 1, but I am loving it right now and I am going to enjoy it. Looking forward to Fausto bringing his nastiest of his nasty stuff for Game 2 tomorrow night and seeing the bats continue to sizzle.

Oh, and fuck LeBron. I think his shit is classless. I lost a lot of respect for him over this Yankee shit. OK, you've been a Yankee fan your whole life, you play for the Cleveland Cavaliers and you represent the city of Cleveland, especially with your status as one of the biggest superstars in the world and probably the biggest name this city has ever known. At the very least take the high road and just put on a good face for the city and for the Tribe, suck it up and at least make it seem like you are rooting for the home team or just stay the fuck away from the camera and keep your mouth shut if you can't do that. I know a lot of Cleveland fans are pissed at LeBron right now and deservedly so.

Anyway, great night tonight for the Tribe and Cleveland. GO TRIBE!!!

All around, awesome game!

Cabrera makes up for grounding into a double-play with bomb.

Peralta makes up for a base-running blunder by hustling out a bloop double (and scoring after another clutch Lofton hit.)

CC dominated in the 3rd and 4th, and got out of a big jam in the 5th only giving up 1.

Couldn't be happier, what a great start to the series. Go Tribe! Get 'em tomorrow Carmona!

Wow... I guess things couldn't get much better in Tribeland...

Just... yeah... Super impressed with C.C.-- lot of guts... small strike zone... probably got fortunate in that when he was in big trouble in the 1st and 5th... Posada and Matsui were up...and jsut blew those guys away....

Very tight strike zone... Wang had it too... but... eventually folded...

I'd like to point out to every talking head that thought the Yankees had an advantage in the bullpen.... that only counts if you can get to Mariano.... idiots... (I think we can safely call Chamberlain vs. the Raphaels a wash). Who was that line of stiffs they trotted out? Seriously?

When Lofton got that RBI hit in the 5th... and... later he was standing on second, it looked like he was about to cry... I think I almost cried with him... as much as I feel like it diminishes this club to compare them to the "90's" teams... I love that Sabathia has sort of come full cirlce with us since 2001... and... I think, you know... if we were going to have a link back to those days I'm glad its Kenny... (Alright, I'd be fine with Thome, too)... but... it just looks like he's so glad to be here.... and... he always has been... I mean, he got traded after '96 because he was going to leave for the "Big Contract"-- well... he came home that time anyway.... I guess you can "go back home"-- twice... Also, how old does Kenny look? 25?

To me the key to this series was that the kids would be too stupid to know they should be scared...

So far, so good... God Bless you Asdrubal Cabrera... you think the Mariners are ever going to trade us a shortstop again?

At any rate... tonight we've got the king of too young to know any better on the hill... Fausto.... no worries bro, Catch ball, throw ball, easy.

Of course... facing Pettitte... I sort of wish we had the '90's offense... they owned that dude... but we'll see.

Anyway.... just to bitch... I'm going to be in the car for the next 2 games.... fucking sucks....

Game one... Jeter/A-Rod.... 0-6, 2 BB, 0 R :wink2:

You would have figured that the tiny strike zone would have benefitted the Yankees' hitters more. But what it really did was force C.C. to rely on his fastball to blow away hitters when he needed to. And Wang couldn't get a low strike call, so he kept leaving the ball up and relying on his rather pedestrian fast ball.

Either way, fuck Bruce Froeming. That tiny strike is ridiculous.

GPA worthy post. Yeah, I love seeing Kenny back with the Tribe. It's where he belongs. I also noticed his emotion during the game. That is something that I think really separates this team from a team like the Yankees. I didn't really understand the trade for Kenny when it happened, but now I realize that Shappy wanted him there for his veteran presence, his Cleveland ties and popularity, along with for the postseason and his experience there. I hope he does not platoon with anyone during this series, he just needs to be out there every game, of every series the Tribe plays in. Looking forward to seeing Fausto get filthy tonight. Go Tribe!!!

Really neat article from the Boston Globe... just a game recap, but... seems like a really "old school-radio days-you didn't get to see the game on TV but I was there" type write up of Game 1... dunno why, just thought the style was neat. (Plus, its a Boston guy, so... Yankee hater)

Indians pound Yankees in ALDS opener - The Boston Globe

A hit production for Indians

CLEVELAND - The domination came not from the mound, which had been the pregame consensus, but from the plate. The Indians more than survived a shaky outing by Cy Young candidate C.C. Sabathia in doing to the Yankees what the Tigers did to them last year and the Angels the year before: pummel them in the postseason.

Lofton, Tribe starving for a title

CLEVELAND -- Even the giant American flag covering the outfield during pregame ceremonies didn't unfurl in more splendor than the waves of hits and runs produced by the Indians in Jacobs Field.

Cleveland crushed New York pitching in Game 1 of the American League divisional series, and in the midst of the barrage, one Indians player more than any other took the city back in time, to a season when the Tribe advertised offense first and pitching second.
The crowd of 44,608 saved their loudest cheers for Kenny Lofton, who after many comings and goings is back where he belongs -- a hard-luck player in a hard-luck city. The circle is complete.
