Time to ship out platoons?

Spotty offense might be result of inconsistent playing time

It's far too early in the season to be making definitive judgments, but there is evidence to suggest that platooning at three positions has been part of the Indians' problem rather than a solution.
The Tribe's offense has been spotty at best, seldom taking advantage of runners in scoring position and rarely when the bases are loaded.
To a degree, this shortcoming has been the result of slow starts by two novices, second baseman Josh Barfield and third baseman Andy Marte, now on the disabled list with a strained hamstring.

CLEVELAND - Choo likely destined for return to Buffalo
At least in the short term, Shin-Soo Choo seems destined to play left out rather than left field.
Choo is one of three left-handed-hitting corner outfielders on the roster, which is at least one too many. Choo is at a further disadvantage, inasmuch as David Dellucci and Trot Nixon, who also bat from the left side, have vastly more experience.
Manager Eric Wedge said, ``I still see Choo as an everyday player,'' but not now.
``I definitely feel like he can help us if he's up here,'' Wedge said. ``But if he's not going to play on a semi-consistent basis, we're going to have to take a look at that.''
Translation: When Andy Marte is ready to come off the disabled list, Choo is headed back to Triple-A Buffalo, unless someone else gets hurt.

Clubhouse confidential: Orioles reliever Danys Baez, who signed with the Indians after defecting from Cuba in 1999, has adapted to life well in his new country.
He's married, has two children and lives in Miami. But the clue that the Americanization of Baez is just about complete came Saturday when he told two Cleveland reporters: "When I first came to this country I had about three or four phone numbers in my cell phone. Now I have about 300."
Baez entered Saturday's game with a 3.18 ERA in 12 appearances covering 11 1/3 innings. The opposition was hitting .171 against him.

Tribe wins 12-4. C.C. got off to a rocky start in the first, but then just started mowing people down. He finished up with 9 K's and no walks in six innings of work. Pronk came up with a big 2 run homer and Peralta drove in 5. We now have three guys approaching 20 RBI's through 23 games...Pronk 18, Victor 19 and Peralta 19.

Yeah, how about Jhonny continuing to not suck?? I hope he can keep it up, he definitely has the ability. Looks like all the hyping the Tribe brass did of him during the offseason has paid off. Pronk is such a stud. I am still trying to get over that bomb of a homer he hit in Tampa.

Jhonny needs to keep it up. He was below the Mendoza line there for a while. Up to .246 I believe now.

Pronk comes up big again. Scary thing is, aside from Pronk, Victor and Jhonny, the bats still haven't come awake consistently for any sustained period. Sucks that Jake may be DL bound, but at least Carmona has looked good and Lee is due back...

If the Cleveland Indians tumble out of playoff contention, they are expected to deal lefty ace C.C. Sabathia since they aren't expected to sign him.

I could not believe what I was reading here, until i noticed the source. :roll1: I can't even imagine the Tribe trading away their best pitcher or letting him walk after the season. I really believe they are committed to their pitching and will do what is right. Dolan always said he would loosed the purse strings when they were a contending team, well, the time is now. I assume the Post thinks we should just trade CC to the........Yankees?? Get the fuck outta here.

CC would walk after next season, and if they can't sign him this off season I would look for them to move him either before or during next season. He might want more money than they are able to pay especially since a team like the Yankees could offer $20 mil a season if they want to. I hope they will be able to sign him after the season to get this out of the way, but that will take at least $15 mil a season and hope that he gives them a hometown discount.

The fact that the Yankees are so desperate for starting pitching gives C.C. strong bargaining power. His agent knows that the Yanks will overpay for him by a ton, and it's worth the risk right now not to sign a long-term extension with Cleveland because the payoff could be huge.

MLB needs a fucking salary cap already.

what is assinine about this is that cleveland won't trade sabathia this season, even if they lose the next 30 in a row.

when they do trade him, it won't be to the yankees. first off, they will prefer to deal him to an NL club. secondly, the yankees have nothing of value that the indians would want in return.

this whole notion that NYY can snap their fingers when they want and get who they want is horseshit and old.

I for one would go nuts if they don't resign C.C. Dolan has the cash and he has penny pinched this team for long enough. If they let him walk or trade him they better be prepared for the fan backlash. I am sure there are many like me that watched Belle, Manny, Thome walk away and are sick of that shit. And don't give me the small market club reality, that is horse shit. Dolan has plenty of cash and when he bought the team made a lot of promises that so far, he has not owned up to. The Indians don't have the same die hard fans like the Browns do that will stick with the team through thick and thin.
