Indians Tidbits (2007 Season)

Gutierrez also could have been a defensive replacement considering how close the game was(his arm is worlds better than Michaels)

Cleveland won't care about what hat Lebron was wearing in two weeks time. This is a complete non-issue that radio hosts are blowing out of the water. The second he steps on the court for the first Cavs game of the season, not a soul in Cleveland will care.

Besides, I'd rather have the world know he's a band wagon fan for the Yankees than him being a bandwagon fan for the Indians.

He pinch-hit! You can always make a defense of substitution.

Don't be so sure about Cleveland fans if you're not from Cleveland.
"Bandwagon"?

I'm not from Cleveland(Akron actually), and I'll guarantee that they won't care the second the NBA season starts. Cleveland fans are fairly insecure when it comes to things like loyalty, so no doubt people are going to be a little pissed off, but it won't be a huge PR deal like you predict. It's just something to talk about(which is a shame since it takes away from how good the Indians are playing).

Gutierrez is a better hitter than Michaels(I'd be asking why wasn't Franklin in the starting line up actually), so it could have been a combination of the two.

Regardless, this wasn't the most questionable decision that Wedge made in the first two games. I'll never understand leaving Perez out there for two innings for the first game or bringing out Betancourt for the ninth in a nine run game. I'd be bashing him over that more so than pinch hitting Gutz for Michaels.

RB hadn't pitched in five days and needed the work. It really hurt Perez pitching two innings. He blew it last night.

As the post above says Nixon has playoff experience and at least he is a left-handed hitter.

If I were not a fan, I would not second-guess.

I personally don't care who they route for but in both of thier best intrests to save a PR nightmare they probably should just keep thier mouths shut and not wear the opposing teams logo on any of thier clothes while attending the games.

In all honesty, considering the importance of the game the umpires should have delayed the game. And I'm not calling sour grapes there - if ANY pitcher suddenly gets a bug in his eye as he's about to throw a 98MPH fastball and throws wildy and a batter ends up getting hit in the temple, then whose fault is it?

As usual, bad decision making from a ball-less umpiring crew. When people talk about what's supposedly wrong with baseball, that's where they should start.

Ah, yes...umpires unwilling to call bug delays, the scourge of Major League Baseball.

Cleveland fans expect the worst, even in best of times

VIEW FROM THE STANDS
JOSEPH GARTRELL

It's in your gut today, like six cups of coffee with no real sustenance. Jittery. Nauseous. Forecasts aren't calling for rain, but your arthritic joints are.

Cloudless skies aren't trusted here. They are a trick, played by an evil force that wants to rain on the unsuspecting Cleveland sports fan - dumb enough to have left his umbrella at home.

Today, the Indians and Browns are in the East, set to battle powerhouses. The Indians are in New York for Game 3 of the Division Series playoffs. The Browns are in Foxboro to play the Patriots - the Yankees of the NFL. Wins would mean so much to both teams.

Yankees still feel it's far from over

BY ANDY CALL

NEW YORK The New York Yankees find themselves on the brink of postseason elimination tonight.

While that might seem encouraging to Indians fans, it also might be just part of the Yankees' grand plan.

"We're back to, 'They've got us right where we want them,' " Manager Joe Torre said Saturday while discussing tonight's Game 3 of the Division Series against the Indians at Yankee Stadium. "Hopefully, that's the case."

Yankees players exhibited confidence Saturday while preparing for an afternoon workout - confidence based, not on cockiness, but on concrete evidence of past success.

GET SOME REST Indians Manager Eric Wedge said he is not at all pondering the notion of starting C.C. Sabathia on three days of rest in Monday's Game 4, if needed. "I've never been a big fan," Wedge said. "We've got four guys here that are scheduled to start who have done a tremendous job for us all year long. I believe in all of our guys."

Indians hope to finish sweep, while Yankees hope to continue era

10/6/2007, 5:42 p.m. EDT By RONALD BLUM
The Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) ? The Cleveland Indians could end a few eras Sunday night.
Roger Clemens could be taking the mound for the last time. Alex Rodriguez could be playing his final game in pinstripes. Joe Torre could be managing for his future with the New York Yankees.
Ahead 2-0 in their best-of-five AL division series after swarming the Yankees at the Jake, the youthful Tribe could be starting a run of their own: The Indians need just one win to advance to their first AL championship series since 1998 ? and to send the Yankees home without a World Series title for the seventh straight season.
