Game Thread Indiana at tOSU, Sat Oct 9, 12:00 ET, ESPN/2

Tony Gerdeman predicts a winless conference slate for the Hoosiers (he also predicted that for MInny).

Note - the listed schedule should also include an Oct 30th home date vs NW'ern.

Ozone

10. Indiana Hoosiers
Predicted Finish
4-8 (0-8)

Two-Cent Overview
An offense that returns a ton of high-quality skill led by a fifth-year quarterback, perhaps the best receiving corps in the conference and the most talented Hoosier running back in nearly a decade. Coupled with a defense that is replacing seven starters, but is doing it with experience and potential.

Schedule
Sept. 2 Towson (W)
Sept. 18 at Western Kentucky (W)
Sept. 25 Akron (W)
Oct. 2 Michigan (L)
Oct. 9 at Ohio State (L)
Oct. 16 Arkansas State (W)
Oct. 23 at Illinois (L)
Nov. 6 Iowa (L)
Nov. 13 at Wisconsin (L)
Nov. 20 vs Penn State (in Landover, MD) (L)
Nov. 27 at Purdue (L)

Team Motto
?Finish?. (That's actually the team motto?I didn't have to make one up this time!)

If he could get time, the IU QB could do some things in the short passing game. That said, he just took a beating from the ferocious 3 man scUM pass rush so the chances of him getting enough time against OSU seem pretty slim.

I think this game just got very interesting. With TP banged up, it's bound to be a Tressel-ball type of game. The problem with that is that Indiana has the potential to really score some points. I don't think we'll get away with sitting on 14-10 lead in this one. Indiana's ability to throw the ball down field with a good, experienced QB and some very nice receivers have me quite nervous. Our secondary will be tested in this one and IMO, our offense will need to score more points than last week.

-I agree 14 probably won't get it done. However, I don't think the offense will be held anywhere near 14 by IU's defense. This is one in which the long time consuming drives that end in touchdownswould really be nice.

-I still can't help but think if Mike Martin could get consistent pressure up the middle with a 3 man rush that the OSU defensive line is going to do some serious damage.

I like this game as a test of the defenses biggest weakness without, hopefully, being in any kind of a danger to lose the game.

I have a few thoughts about this game, in light of this past weekend:

1. With regards to Chapell, he has been fantastic this season, especially yesterday. However, OSU will not be in a 3-3-5 all game and allow him 7-10 seconds per play. B-rolle and Homan will help the line get pressure on Chapell, and he has yet to face consistent pressure.

2. As usual, the Bucks need to ensure that there are no big plays. Without those 20+ yard plays, IU has no chance.

3. With TP apparently being at least slowed, the point has been made to expect a bunch of Tresselball. With Wisky next week, I expect the coaching staff to protect him, thus leading to a lot of opportunities for Boom. TP will do enough to get the lead and get IU demoralized early, but then I expect Tress to slow it way down. This is assuming the run game is at least halfway effective.

4. I don't think we should read much into the "closeness" of the Illinois game, for several reasons. A) This is at home. B) This is IU. We own IU. C) Every year there will be games like this past weekend. First road game, conference game, team that plays us close often. QB gets hurt early in the second half, otherwise it could have been a blowout. TP stays in the game, that could be 14-21 more points on the board. D)The defense really stepped up after a bad first quarter, and they will be HUNGRY against IU.

5. Its worth noting that IU is terrible against the run. I think if IU was a "solid" opponent, meaning well rounded, Tress would allow TP to play his usual self. But, against a terrible defense like IU has, we should be able to easily win without TP being spectacular.

Granted, all of this is on Sunday, a lot can change in 6 days. TP's leg could be worse, anything. These are just my "quick thoughts" after the weekend.

GO BUCKS!!!!

Great post. After seeing how IU played against scUM last night I think we will run right through their defense like it was a pewee team.

I'd expect maybe a touchdown or two if that out of Indiana, and I see BOOM getting some big plays and hopefully some playing time for Hall and Berry. I'm thinking 38-10 tOSU.

Then just hope that it's not incredibly windy in Columbus on Saturday.

Even without Pryor, we are facing the 47th ranked passing defense (and 88th overall defense). We'll have no problems putting up points. As long as our defense does a few stops, we'll be perfectly fine.
