In-State Players to Watch

Bill Krurelic: This weekend I count down my Top 8 prospects from the Ohio class of 2022.

Ryan Day, Mark Pantoni and the Ohio State staff have assembled a spectacular 2021 recruiting class and it is not finished yet. But with 18 commitments for the class of 2021 the staff can and is also doing plenty of work on their 2022 class. And they can do so knowing they have a strong start on that class.

The Buckeyes have commitments from Tegra Tshabola and C.J. Hicks. I have them also landing Gabe Powers and Blake Miller. At this point I have Kaden Saunders going to Penn State. In particular, if the Buckeyes were to offer Derrick Shepard I would like their chances of him becoming a Buckeye.

OT Aamil Wagner from Wayne was ranked pretty high in the 247 (83) and ESPN (153) rankings release today. In fact, 247 has him as the second-ranked player in the state for 2022.

Probably one worth keeping and eye on.
Must have a very projectable frame. 247's profile has him listed at 6-6, 240.

Brother Ahmad is a heck of an athlete. Played basketball at Iowa before transferring to Kentucky for football (wide receiver). Got picked up by the Bears as a UDFA this offseason.

Ohio lineman Aamil Wagner becoming a big name on the recruiting trail

During a time when rising juniors would normally be blowing up on the recruiting trail, it is becoming more challenging for class of 2022 prospects to get the word out.

Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne offensive tackle prospect Aamil Wagner is starting to see major interest, however, and is one of Ohio's hottest prospects at the moment.

The 6-foot-6, 250-pound prospect holds more than half a dozen Power Five offers, including a couple of recent Big Ten offers from Michigan State and Penn State.

"I like the success that both schools have had with being able to put players in the NFL," Wagner said of his latest offers. "I also like the culture around both teams and the support the fans give them."

Wagner also holds offers from the likes of Arizona State, Nebraska, and Oregon. Ohio State hasn't offered yet, but the Buckeyes are well aware of the athletic tackle prospect.

"I’ve been in contact with (Assistant O-Line coach Kennedy Cook)," Wagner explained. "I’m looking forward to progressing my relationship with the team. The main things they are telling me is that they like my frame and I have a lot of potential."

Luckily for the Buckeyes, the state of Ohio is deep along the offensive line in the 2022 class and Wagner is certainly one of the best. There is mutual interest here as Wagner grew up admiring the Ohio State program.

"I like the success OSU has had in the Big 10 along with the number of players they are able to put in the draft each year," he said. "Overall I think it’s a great program."

Wagner's early offer list might be even more impressive if he would have had a chance to show colleges the progress he has made both physically and technically since last season. He's hoping he'll get a chance to put that stuff on film this fall.

"I’m going to be a lot stronger than I was last year and improve on my consistency," he stated. "I’ll also be able to show off my versatility and play multiple positions."
