Impending Assistant Coach Vacancies

If JT wasn’t an ex Buckeye, you wouldn’t even mention him, I could see bringing him back as a position coach, not OC though. Randle El has no college coaching experience as well.

But he is a former Buckeye who played under Day which is a positive. He was known as an exceptional leader while here too. Hartline didn't have any OC experience before this year either. I'm sure JT has learned a lot from Ben Johnson and I would not be surprised to see him do well here

Anyone we bring in will likely be a co-OC anyway, unless it's a big name. If a guy like JT is 5 stars at everything other than play-calling experience, it wouldn't be a bad move. We have one of the best play-callers in the game sitting in the office next door, ready to take over if he doesn't like how it's going. I'd rather bring in someone young and bright rather than a Kelly/Daboll type that would likely only stick around for a season. Whoever it is just has to give us the 8 years that Hartline was on the staff.

JT was an exceptional leader but that doesn’t always translate into being able to recruit. Hartlind didn’t have any OC experience but he did have many years of already being on the staff and establishing himself as an elite college coaching/recruiter.
