Imageshack Users: Impending Red X of Doom

But really, that is some shady moves by ImageShack. I've used them for a lot of image hosting.

Photobucket? Tinypic?

I've used Photobucket for a lot of stuff I've put on here, but lately I've switched over to Webshots for posting images--their sizing options are very exact and always work just the way I want them to.

Both are free accounts that I've used for years and so far have never had any guff from them about limits or other problems with their service. Lots of really great wallpaper on Webshots, too.

PS I've never used it, but see a lot of recommendations for this hosting site, too:

I think the word you both are looking for is "extortion".

They shouldn't get away with it--serves them right if this move generates a ton of negative internet buzz against them. It ought it.

Just got this in the Inbox yesterday:

Dear User,?

We noticed that your ImageShack account has reached or close to reaching maximum number of images allowed for free accounts.

We wanted to notify you in advance that free accounts now have a limit of 500 images. After you reach this limit, older images above 500 will expire within a month and will be subject to deletion. You can increase the? capacity? of your account by subscribing to our basic subscription plan. It is only $2 per month. There are multiple benefits of using our premium service. Some include: unlimited number of uploads, uploads of files of up to 10MB, automatic image backup, high availability and uptime of 99.9%.

Please protect your images by purchasing a subscription at this link: http://imageshack.us/content.php?page=subscribe

Yeah, I'll get right on that, jackballs. Meanwhile, here's a present: .!..

What happens to images that were uploaded anonymously without logging in?

I went to upload a pic there yesterday and it appears that you can no longer do so anonymously...it requested a login immediately.

So no more imageshack for me.

I emailed them requesting to bulk download my images, since they suggest we do so on the account page. No answer yet.

On the up side, they have added a plugin for Dropbox since I last checked. I've been using Rehost Image for Firefox, where you only have to right-click a picture to send it to Imageshack. With the plugin, it goes to Imageshack and to Dropbox. As long as I'm going to wind up paying for Imageshack, that's a nice feature to have.

Even worse... most of my 4,000+ digital memories consist of grammatically inept kittens. Won't anyone think of the kittens?

I saw this and thought: Deety.
Not sure about the eptitude of their grammar, but they're definitely kittens.
