The push from some U of I students for a mascot isn't anything new, but it is the first time something had actually passed. But, it's all a hell no for me. Thank God it was non-binding.
I miss Chief Illiniwek, but I've accepted that isn't ever coming back. No mascot for Illinois. We're fine without one and fans don't want one.
Wouldn't spend a single penny on Illini gear with that bird in it.
The name "Fighting Illini" was to honor Illinois students and staff that died in World War I. If we're going to go the "mascot route" have something like a soldier in Orange and Blue, that's the only thing I could ever remotely get behind. Even then, my preference is to keep it as is. A bird makes no sense.

Illinois QB Brandon Peters Tests Positive for COVID-19, Out vs. Purdue
Illinois will face Purdue on Saturday without starting quarterback Brandon Peters, who has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Illini announced on Saturday morning that Peters and redshirt freshman tight end Griffin Moore returned positive tests. The school said "several other players" will also be sidelined this weekend and next week against Minnesota due to contract tracing.
