God bless his little heart. :slappy:

Lovie since 2006...

60-68, 1 playoff appearance in 9 years. Monumental late-season collapses in 2011 and 2012 with Chicago. 8-24 in two years with Tampa. Got fired from his last two NFL jobs. Today's recruits were 6-7 years old when he got the Bears to the Super Bowl.

They're treating an exceptionally average NFL coach like the second coming of Knute Rockne. Glad they've gained some perspective of their place in the CFB world over the last eight years. They're gonna try to spin this like Pete Carroll at USC. Couple problems with that: Champaign-Urbana is not fucking LA; Illinois is not fucking USC; Pete Carroll was an energetic, charismatic coach...nobody will accuse Lovie of being either of those.

Solid hire for a program of that stature, but Lovie is at best an average coach (hell, below average over the last 9 years) and hasn't coached in college in two decades. If they're lucky, he can turn them into Bo Pelini's Nebraska. I think that will take a lot of good fortune to happen. More likely, he makes them Jerry Kill's Minnesota. It's a step up from the end of the Zooker-era, and the Beckman debacle, but if they're topping out at 9 wins with the frenzy they're working themselves into, they'll be calling for his head inside of 5 years.

I am bookmarking this post for later. Just wait, when they win the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange Bowls in the same year, you'll see.
