Game Thread Illinois 28, Ohio State 21 (final)

The only booing that could be heard on the television broadcast came on the two plays directly preceding the one penalty called on Illinois. The boos were directed at the refs for not calling holding on Illinois. Those boos, I thought, were appropriate.

Yes those boos were very appropriate. Including the boos when the Illini were stomping on the midfield O.

There were plenty coming from 24C. I heard several players booing and yelling "YOU SUCK!!!" and I really don't think they were talking about the Illini. People just need to have some respect and realize that these players are Kids.
That was surely right before the refs finally called the one, single, only and unique penalty against the Illini.

The crowd only booed the refs - and I too was there.

x2. There were a lot more holding calls then that. Gholston was getting raped a lot.

What also strikes me odd is where the hell was Brandon Saine at? Line him up as a decoy or something. He's got good hands too. He was Mr. Ohio for a reason. I bet Tressel has something up his sleeve for THE GAME, or we would have seen him more.

My thoughts on the game (since I was there).....

Our opening drive was excellent. Despite an under thrown ball by Boeckman, Hartline made a great play and took us down the field....finished by a Beanie TD. Illinois opening drive was about the same, just swapped (long run, short pass for TD). After the opening drive, I thought the D would've really settled down and played like the #1 defense in the country....but it didn't happen. It was extremely frustrating because it seemed like the Illini were running the same play over and over again (PA fake and Williams takes off or straight hand off out of the gun) and we couldn't stop it. Boeckman's first INT was just a forced throw, which was a bad decision. During the 2nd quarter, our O line play was absolutely dreadful. Boeckman had NO time, which led to some mistakes. Going in to the Half and only being down 7, I thought Tressel would get the boys fired up and we'd come out firing in the 2nd half, as we usually do. From my point of view, it honestly looked like the WRs would run their routes and then just stop. It didn't really seem that they were "trying" to get open for TB and as a result, he would have to scramble. Taking nothing away from the Illini, I think they played excellent on both O & D, but it just seemed like the Bucks "gave up", especially on O.

Anyway, I'm over the loss and looking ahead to scUM. Like I said in the "It Ain't Over" thread....we can't make the NC game every year guys. We are STILL one of the best teams in the Country and will continue to be for many years. I'd be very happy with a 11-1 regular season record and be the Big Ten Champs once again, with a trip to the Rose Bowl. If we somehow make it to the NC game, then great....but if not, it's not the end of the world. Hopefully this loss was a huge wake up call and the team will come out pounding on TSUN.

On another note....I was truely disappointed with our fans yesterday. I couldn't stand the fact that people were leaving with over 3 minutes to go in the game and saying the game was over. Have some respect for the guys that you call "your team" and stick it out with them. I was also disgusted with fans booing the Buckeyes at the end of the game. I also overheard some moron (wearing scarlett & grey) claim that the Buckeyes suck and that Ohio would take it to us next year. I really wanted to stand up and beat the shit out of this kid, but I held myself back. Whether we win or lose, I will NEVER down the players nor the coaching staff. I'm with this team through wins and losses, no matter what.

:oh:

take a bag full of "rubies" next time and pelt the punks!

:io:

First of all, it's "different from", not "different than", but maybe you haven't reached high school yet, so I'll let that one slide for now....

the first definition of "than" is that it is a comparative. the first definition of "from" is that it is a starting point. would you say, "she's taller from I am"?

no more grammar police from you please. (or should i say "than you"?) :p

From a crew that was reprimanded for calling excessive penalties in the Purdue/PSU game a week ago and will be supposedly serving a suspension next week. How in the hell does that crew get assigned to such an important game?

Please tell me you're kidding. Is it confirmed that it was the same crew, and if so, by whom?

2-The no call on the fumble was inexcusable(I saw that before I left)-it was not a close to the ground judgement call. The refs should be punished, and the OSU staff monitoring the replay should fess up.

i can handle the loss, but this is the part that is really sticking in my craw. why? because no one on the staff monitors the replay. they don't even have a monitor in the coaches' booth, and that's from coach Tressel's own mouth. it is incredibly frustrating to me to learn that our staff has not taken advantage of the replay innovation some three years after it was initiated.

That explains why they didn't call the "moving pick" on the Gamble touchdown where Benn laid Washington (I believe) on his butt. Just plain lazy refereeing, I thought, but maybe they were trigger-shy?

This was our refs yesterday? Illinois is very good in the fewest penalities called department.

Haven't read one post in this thread but my thoughts.

1) The best team won. Can't blame it on any quirky plays or the non reversal of the first touchdown.

They kicked our butts and deserved to win.

2) Give Zook some credit. The guy can coach.

3) I'm worried should we be fortunate enough to make the Rose Bowl and possibly have to play Oregon and their spread.

4) Illinois' O-line played AWESOME.

Great win by the Illini and time for the Bucks to regroup and beat scUM.
