Game Thread Illinois 0, at tOSU 30 (Sep 26, 3:30, ABC/ESPN)

It was a little late but looked a lot worse b/c of the position the Illini player was in w/ a defender already on his legs and he got bent backwards. The hit was kind of a glancing one, don't think he hit him that hard b/c he flew right over the top of the pile and actually think he did a complete somersault. I've seen a lot worse this year that haven't gotten suspensions. I wouldn't think a suspension would come out of this. Does anyone else?????

:oh::io:

I doubt that there will be a suspension, but the hit was pretty bad. The Illini player got tackled was on the ground and THEN Kurt launched into him. He didn't hit him hard, what was bad was that it was way, way late. No question about that...he's just jacked up about getting a 2nd shutout :)

Calm down Grad.
And I would buy your argument if they didnt do that every single time they punt...

Do you want to double check Thoma's stats in the USC game?

Is your memory that bad?

Edit - 4 of 6 inside the 20, after verifying it

And the other 2 were on the 20.

Amazes me how people cry/complain when we're up 23-0 over a team that has given us fits in recent years. Pull your head out of your own asses and be happy with the W.

Exactly. One jackass in particular sitting about 5 rows in front of me was hollering for Tress to "open up the playbook" as OSU was running the ball down Illinois' throats. He complained loudly when OSU opted to punt instead of trying the long field goal. It took a lot of restraint after Pryor's fumble for me not to shout down to him that this is what happens when the playbook gets opened.

I am very quickly tiring of a certain segment of OSU fans that are never, EVER pleased with anything. Kudos to JT on calling them out a couple weeks ago.

This is going to be a year when the computers and polls will be very close between teams. 30-0 looks a lot better than 23-0. Some computers had the game at a 37 point spread.

Still, I think Ohio State fans might have been upset by that last touchdown, if the shoe were on the other foot. Going for two passing attempts with so little time on the clock was good practice for a team with some concerns in the red zone. But those two plays looked like more than play calls--they looked like they were chosen to send a message that was intentionally emasculating and disrespectful...

Just like the Illinois team members who danced on the logo in Ohio Stadium two years ago and the team that ran onto the field and tried to do the same today.

Tressel normally errs on the side of respect for his foes and fellow coaches. He's the quintessential "take a knee" guy. But, he has his limits. He is not going to send a team--who disrespects his team, stadium, and fans--with the satisfaction of loading the box and shutting down the run.

There was a message here from Jim Tressel to the Illini. "You're not in our heads. You're not playing football at our level. You will show us respect, like it or not."

Zook had some recruiting success in recent years in central Ohio. There also was a message for central Ohioans who play for Illinois. "Play for these guys and this will be your homecoming."

If Illinois were capable of delivering such messages, they certainly would have.

I want to add, I'm so fucking proud of the fans Saturday. Pouring down rain, and you motherfuckers are still screaming and cheering like oompa loompas on crack. This isnt fucking Florida, we come out no matter the weather and cheer our asses off. It was shitty, but every time the boys needed those 105k fans, they got 'em.

Kudos to those of you at the game, once again you have made us all proud! O H!!!!!

From the first half thread....

That's twice this year that JT has waited at least 15 seconds to call a timeout to stop the clock. He needs to make quicker decisions than that.

JT had made his mind up well before the timeout was called. He was standing right next to the ref for those 15 seconds and waited until there was just a hair over 2 minutes left to call the timeout.

I was thinking he was looking at the 40 second clock and figuring that 3 running plays, with no timeouts used by either side, would kill the clock. I can't figure any other reason for intentionally waiting that additional time.

Speaking of coaches not using timeouts....I am still in disbelief that Zook didn't use his timeouts at the end of the first half when OSU was pinned around the 3 yard line with 21 seconds left. Having all three timeouts, he had a chance to force OSU to punt from the very back of the endzone and with that little time, he could go all-out for the block with no real worries about what might happen if they roughed the kicker. Hell, a good punt would still leave them in Hail Mary position and a poor punt would put them in possible field goal position.

If I somehow missed a imeout UI had used, disregard that paragraph. But I really don't think I did. I triple-checked the scoreboard right after UI chose not to call one and it still showed they had 3 available.

You're in disbelief over a bonehead move by the Zooker?

No, I think you've got it right. I was thinking the exact same thing at the time. It's too close to kneel so OSU has to run out of the end zone. Couple in the wet ball and there were about 10 different ways Illinois could steal a TD there, or at a minimum a safety with an opportunity to receive either a free kick or a punt already in Hail Mary range. I was puzzled too.

Make 'em snap it and pray for a fumble, a stuff, holding in the end zone, or intentional grounding.

Kurt Coleman - Suspended

Ohio State Buckeyes safety Kurt Coleman suspended for hit to helmet against Illinois Fighting Illini - ESPN

This is unbelivable, the B10 commission needs to put theyre panties away lol...Kurt coleman hit the player late, but get real, a pile of guys were still on the ground and kurt was obviously just over hyped...

IMO what warrents a suspension is if kurt had ran up to someone walking away and hit him with his helmet.

Tressel pulled kurt out immeadiatley, that is All that needs to happen for a late hit. Also, tressel did reply with disgust to the suspension and im glad he did.
